The New York Yankees have a problem in the infield this season. First baseman Anthony Rizzo is out for the next two months with an arm fracture sustained earlier this year. Second baseman Gleyber Torres’ abysmal form and defensive errors led to his benching for the near future.

Third baseman DJ LeMahieu had a late debut in May following a foot injury. However, LeMahieu hasn’t been able to get locked in and is lacking the required intent and swing to score runs for the Yankees. Hence, amid visible gaps in the infield, Bleacher Report’s Joel Rueter proposed a crucial trade with the Los Angeles Angels.

It’s no secret that the New York Yankees would be active by this trade deadline, given visible gaps in the roster, especially in the infield and bullpen. Meanwhile, in a bold trade proposal, Bleacher Report’s Joel Rueter has suggested that the New York Yankees send one of their top prospects, Everson Pereira, to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for utility infielder Luis Rengifo. Pereira is the number 3 prospect of the Yanks farm system, who was promoted to the big leagues in September of last year. However, he failed to translate his minor-league form into the big stage. Moreover, a UCL tear injury sustained earlier this month will keep him out for the rest of the year. Pereira is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery soon.

Meanwhile, Luis Rengifo offers the New York Yankees a versatile infielder capable of playing multiple positions. This season, he has seen regular action at second base, shortstop and third base with the Los Angeles Angels and slashed .305/.354/.413 for a 116 OPS+ with 15 extra-base hits and 20 steals in 62 games. He could be a major offensive as well as defensive infield upgrade for the Yanks, given that the front office manages to accomplish the trade. With Everson Pereira ruled out with Tommy John surgery, Angels would think twice before taking a bold step. Also, Pereira still remains one of the thriving outfield prospects despite his lean form. Hence, whether or not giving up Pereira is the right choice or not remains to be seen. But overall, Joel Rueter’s ambitious trade proposal is worth a look for the Bronx Bombers.

Aaron Boone Shrugs Off Frustration Over Yanks Offensive Troubles

The New York Yankees flipped switch to destroy the May momentum. They lost four back to back series on the trot and gave up the AL-East top position to Baltimore Orioles. Moreover, the offence has been the most troubling factor leading to these collapses. However, Aaron Boone isn’t concerned one bit.

In the post game interview following Subway series loss, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone stated that he is not allowed to be frustrated. Any MLB season isn’t perfect throughout the 162 games stretch and hence the team has to embrace the hard side of the sport as well. And with a big series against the Blue Jays coming up, the skipper wants Yanks to focus ahead.
