Sir Lewis Hamilton joined the Silver Arrows back in 2013 when the late great Niki Lauda brought the Briton to the German team. That same year, the new team principal, Toto Wolff, joined Mercedes as well. Moreover, Hamilton has all his racing career driven Mercedes-powered cars. Even when he raced for McLaren from 2007 to 2012, the engine came from the Silver Arrows. Later, as he joined the team in 2013, a new chapter of Formula One opened up. Hamilton went on to win six titles with the German in addition to his first title with McLaren, making him share the record with Michael Schumacher.

Now, in F1 history, only two drivers have won as many as seven championships. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has won more than 100 races, and he is the only racer to do so. Hence, everybody knows how deep, long, and successful the collaboration has been between Hamilton and Mercedes. It would be sad to see the partnership end after the current season is over. However, it seems like the contract negotiation has hit yet another roadblock.

For a long time, Lewis Hamilton has mentioned that as long as he has a good understanding with Toto Wolff, he would like to continue as a Mercedes driver. Even Mercedes’ boss mentioned that the contract extension is complete emotionally. They just need to sign it formally. But when will there be a final confirmation? For a long time, there have been many speculations, such as Ferrari can sign with Lewis Hamilton. Moreover, the iconic Italian team did show interest in bringing Hamilton into their camp. However, if the bond between Wolff and Hamilton is so strong, the fans are curious as to when they will confirm the extension officially.

The current Mercedes-Hamilton contract ends after the ongoing season is over. However, it seems like they have hit another roadblock. Moreover, the reason seems to be the non-driving proposal for the obligations to sign the extensions. However, if Lewis Hamilton signs a two-year driving deal, he can earn over 100 million pounds for his two seasons with the Brackley team. However, The Sun reports that the main reason for the current discord is Hamilton’s desire to appear as the team’s ambassador. But this clause is becoming the point of contention and creating a standoff in determining the contract extensions.

What if the rumors of the Ferrari’s lucrative offer attract Hamilton to change teams? Moreover, he has been struggling to get a win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Clearly, the Mercedes team has not figured out the way to build the fastest car in the cost-cap era. Hence, Lewis Hamilton may have to wait for further many years.

That’s why even a two-year deal looks like a short period of time. Hence, the question arises if moving to Ferrari is a good idea for the seven-time champions. For the last 13 years, Mercedes and Red Bull have dominated the grid. Ferrari has not won a single championship since 2008.
