New York Yankees top farm system prospect, Jasson Dominguez, also known as ‘The Martian’ has been knocking doors of a major league promotion for a while now. After a stellar debut in September 2023, Jasson was expected to start everyday in 2024 before UCL tear injury ruled him out for several months.

On top of that, Jasson Dominguez endured an oblique injury just days after recovering from Tommy John surgery. However, now that the injury dark clouds are past him, Dominguez is likely to be promoted to the big leagues as soon as this weekend. And if the roster move materialises, Jasson can take over a veteran outfielder’s job.

Jasson Dominguez, often referred to as “The Martian” for his extraordinary talents, has been making waves in the New York Yankees’ minor league system since recovery from Tommy John surgery and oblique strain. He is hitting .309 with a .855 OPS, 8 home runs, and 14 stolen bases with Triple-A since his return from the injury list. That being said, MLB will allow teams to expand their roster from 26 to 28 members from September 1, meaning, Jasson Dominguez’s call-up is just around the corner. Recently, Baseball America Editor-in-Chief JJ Cooper tipped the Martian to not only get promoted but also replace veteran left fielder Alex Verdugo in the postseason. He added that the Yanks need production in corner outfield spots.

Alex Verdugo has been a bust, to say the least, despite an early-season resurgence. And time has run out for him to induce a turnaround. “If he [Jasson Dominguez] gets that call, could he end up showing in September that he could be their everyday left fielder come October,” Cooper said. Not only that, Cooper opined that Jasson isn’t someone who just enjoys the big-league experience. He is someone who can leave an immediate impact despite being just 21 years old. With the New York Yankees in the thick of the playoff race, they may be looking for a spark, and Dominguez could provide just that.Bringing in a fresh, young talent like Dominguez could help boost the team’s energy and provide a much-needed injection of offence down the stretch. Moreover, Dominguez’s versatility allows him to adapt to different outfield roles, making him a valuable asset.

Anthony Rizzo Eyes Sunday Return After Prolonged Injury Layoff

On September 1, the New York Yankees could enforce multiple roster moves. Besides Jasson Dominguez’s potential major league promotion, rehabbing first baseman Anthony Rizzo could also be activated from 60-day IL. Rizzo has been sidelined since June due to an arm fracture injury. The infielder was supposed to play DH in his rehab assignment for a week.

However, latest arm scans allowed Anthony Rizzo to transition into first base earlier than initially planned. Rizzo played first base on Tuesday and slammed a home run with the bat as well. Hence, if all things go week, the infielder could be activated from IL as early as this Sunday i.e September 1. Ben Rice, meanwhile, could be sent back as corresponding move.
