CHECKOUT: How New York Yankees Lost Evil Empire Tag To LA Dodgers This Off-Season?

The New York Yankees, built under the leadership of visionary George Steinbrenner, went on to unleash dominance in MLB with a record number of World Series wins. Since it’s existence, NYY has won as many as 27 World Series titles, 40 AL Pennants, and 20 division titles. Not only that, the Bombers produced the greatest stars of the game over the course of several decades.

However, under George’s kin, Hal Steinbrenner’s leadership, the narrative has sort of taken a shift. The New York Yankees are not the lethal force they used to be. And the 14-year championship drought is a perfect testament to that lost narrative. Meanwhile, a radio host recently shed light on the same and opined that Yanks no longer hold the tag of Evil Empire.

The New York Yankees earned the label of the “Evil Empire” primarily due to their historic success, financial might, and penchant for acquiring high-profile players. The team’s aggressive pursuit of top talent and its ability to outspend rivals in the free-agent market contributed to the perception that the Yanks were the big, bad force in MLB. However, with a long, withstanding World Series drought and the 2023 lost season, the perception has twisted. Fans, as well as MLB analysts, believe that current NYY leadership does not have what it takes to build an evil empire. The vision and courage of George Steinbrenner are lacking in the current group.

Moreover, recently, WFAN host Marc Malusis weighed in on the same. He says that earlier fans trusted the Yankees to build a star-studded lineup. However, with Hal Steinbrenner taking over the reigns, the trust factor is no longer there. On top of that, Marc believes NYY is dethroned by the LA Dodgers to become the new evil empire of MLB. “The Dodgers, with the money that they spent and the aggressiveness that they have. They are the new ‘Evil Empire.'” said Marc Malusis. Well, the radio host’s harsh assessment isn’t completely untrue. The Dodgers did buy Shohei Ohtani, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a hefty deal this off-season. Their projected lineup for the 2024 season consists of several stars. Thus, as far as roster comparison is concerned, undoubtedly, the Dodgers are a lethal force to be reckoned with.

Yankees Eyeing Reunion With Jordan Montgomery!

Coming back to the New York Yankees’ off-season campaign, the team is actively searching for a potent starting pitcher. Moreover, Jon Heyman of the New York Post opines that NYY remains eager to sort out a reunion with current World Champion Jordan Montgomery. The starter who was traded back in 2022, won the World Series with the Texas Rangers in 2023 but remains a free agent.

Thus, the Yankees would like to bring back Jordan Montgomery to the Bronx this off-season. On the flip side, the Bronx Bombers do not seem too keen on pursuing reigning CY Young awardee Blake Snell. The pitcher is a free agent, but owing to his past accolades, the asking price could be steep. However, the Bombers have enough money that they saved from the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes. Thus, if Snell is ready for negotiation, NYY must oblige.
