The previous road trip brought along a lot of positives for the last-placed New York Yankees. They swept arch-rivals Houston Astros and boarded a flight back home filled with confidence and pride. At the Bronx, the Detroit Tigers were waiting to kick off a three-game series. The last time the duo met, Bronx Bombers had the upper hand as they won the four-game series by 3-1.

This time around, the Yankees fielded their trump card for the series opener, Gerrit Cole. The CY Young Award candidate unleashed his brilliance to restrict the Tigers to just one run on board in six innings. The talented bullpen took care of the rest. However, it was powerful slugger Giancarlo Stanton who completely stole the show with his signature towering hit.

Last night, fans thronged the Yankee stadium to witness their team, the New York Yankees, in action. The Bombers have regained some shape lately, and the fans couldn’t be more excited. Meanwhile, the Yanks didn’t disappoint at all, especially Giancarlo Stanton. With the scores tied 1-1, Stanton smoked 451 feet blast over the left-center field wall to bring up his career 400th home run. The slugger rounded the bases as the Yanks went 2-1 up at the bottom of the sixth. Stanton’s 400th home run hit came in his signature style as he entered an elite list of players.

The slugger is now the 58th player in major league history to record 400 home runs and the 10th Yankee in franchise history. Moreover, his Yankee teammates celebrated the feat in style. Rookie Anthony Volpe stalled his at-bat by taking a time-out so that Giancarlo Stanton could do a curtain call. Stanton took off his helmet and bowed down in front of a 31,553 crowd. “I didn’t have a number in mind when I first started this game, but it’s pretty cool to be here now and keep it going,” Stanton said. Further, Aaron Boone, the Yankees skipper, called the hit a “missile” while congratulating the slugger for the iconic feat. Overall, the night could not have ended better for Stanton, as his salient efforts resulted in a much-needed win for his team.

Apart from Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu and Gerrit Cole contributed heavily to the Yankees thumping 5-1 win over Detroit Tigers. LeMahieu hit his second homer as a leadoff in the past four games to get the Yanks scoreboard ticking. Further, Gleyber Torres scored a double in the eighth inning to put some insurance runs on board. The defense, led by pitcher Gerrit Cole, took care of the rest.

Gerrit Cole made a start and pitched six innings while leaking just one run with seven strikeouts. His ERA came down to 2.90, which is now the best in the American League. However, Cole had a hard time dealing with humid conditions. “It was just so thick tonight. The humidity was something else,” said Cole. But the ace managed to maintain control and execute pitches to perfection.
