The New York Yankees had a terrible season last year. That’s the one they want to forget, but the wound is still too fresh to heal. After all, they have failed to make it to the postseason for the first time since 2016. The NY side finished with an awful 82-80 record. They were the fourth-placed team in the American League East division at the end of the 2023 regular season. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers had the second-lowest batting average in the league. They were only better than the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics.

Moreover, the Yankees had too many injuries to deal with in 2023, especially the key players like Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Jasson Dominguez. Veterans and the youth had faced injury troubles last year. Hence, nothing really went the Bronx Bomber’s way in the previous season. But the 2024 season looks to be very different from the last one. For instance, when 2023 was the worst season for the Yankees in the last 30 years, they had the best start to a season in a long time this year. Perhaps the changes in the offense are really proving to be quite significant.

In 2023, the NY side did not have a batting order that made the opponent pitchers feel like, “They are tough to pitch to.” On the contrary, in 2024, things seem to be a lot different. The Yankees have won ten games after their first thirteen outings in the ongoing season. Moreover, they relied on their terrific offense. Most importantly, the youngsters like Anthony Volpe, Oswaldo Cabrera, and the new addition Juan Soto stood out so far after 13 games. On the other hand, Aaron Judge had a pretty slow start to the 2024 season. It took him seven games to hit his first home run. Then, there is the Designated Hitter Giancarlo Stanton, who is slowly getting back to his groove.

Both Judge and Stanton are quite injury-prone but essential members of the team. In the series against the Miami Marlins, it seemed like both Judge and Stanton returned to their explosive hitting forms. Then, there is Alex Verdugo, who came from the arch-rivals the Boston Red Sox who really impressed the Yankees Faithful so far in the outfield as well as at-bat. Clearly, the offense of the NY side has the potential to do something special. But things need to go right for them throughout the year because it is still too early to come to a conclusion about a postseason berth for the Yankees. Last season taught the fans and the team a lot about mishaps and misfortunes.

So Far, The Numbers Are All Up For The Bronx Bombers

Clearly, the strategy of the Yankees last offseason is paying dividends this season. However, it is too early to comment or make a grand conclusion. Anyhow, after a long time, the Yankees Nation are enjoying a simply great start to a season. Currently, the Bombers are 10-3. So far, they have not lost a series in 2024. In the last series against the Miami Marlins, they won the first two games but lost the third, which was the last one.

Next, the Yankees will face the Cleveland Guardians, who are enjoying a pretty good start as well. But the fans can be really happy so far as the NY side’s numbers are all up compared to the last season. They have better walks, slugging, and batting averages, as well as OPS. But most importantly, the on-base percentage has seen a significant improvement.
