The New York Yankees have missed Gerrit Cole so far in the 2024 regular season. In Spring Training, there came a big blow for the NY side when their ace pitcher hurt his right elbow. Last year, the ace had a career-best season despite the team not doing well at all. The Bronx Bombers had the worst season in the last 30 years of the franchise history. However, even in the darkest period of the team in recent times, their ace pitcher was brighter than the Sun. They needed the 2023 AL Cy Young winner fit and fine ahead of the current season.

However, Gerrit Cole had a nerve inflammation in his right elbow in the spring training. Later, the Yankees put him on the 60-day Injured List. He has been recovering well with his rehab assignments in the minor league. Meanwhile, the NY side had the young Dominican pitcher Luis Gil replace Cole. So far, it has been a masterstroke as Gil is a top contender for the Cy Young award in the American League this year. Lately, Cole said he can’t wait to get back to the rotation sooner.

Initially, the Yankees seemed like having a pretty shaky starting pitching lineup. But so far, the starters have done a tremendous job without their ace pitcher. On March 1, Gerrit Cole played the only spring training game this year. Later, the team doctors and his MRI gave the diagnosis that he had nerve inflammation and edema. On Friday, the Yankees ace made his third rehab start in a Triple-A game. At present, Cole is 33 years old. He looked sharp on Friday, playing for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Moreover, the 2023 AL Cy Young winner pitched over 4 1/3 innings. After his quite possibly final rehab game, Gerrit Cole looked happy with where he is.

Moreover, he admitted that he wants to join the high-flying Yankees as soon as possible. According to YES Network, Cole mentioned, “I really want to get back as soon as possible.” He acknowledged the club, saying that it looks really fun right now. That’s the reason why he is trying his best to ensure he is in a good spot. Then, Cole will be able to help the AL East Toppers at present. After Friday’s outing, Gerrit Cole noted that it was really good work. Lately, the Yankees got their 50th game win of the season. They are the first to get to 50 this season.

YES Network quoted Gerrit Cole saying, “We must make that decision in the next one to two days.” Clearly, the Yankees ace is eager to get back to the big league action. He said he had a pretty good outing on Friday in the Triple-A game. Moreover, Cole mentioned that he used all the pitches well. He was happy about getting to pretty much all the locations. Hence, he believes it was another great step in the right direction.

Albeit, the Yankees manager Aaron Boone was reluctant to give out a possible date for Cole’s return, it might be next week in the series against the Baltimore Orioles. Luis Gil is just 26 years old. He has done a great job, replacing the reigning AL Cy Young winner. Now, will the Yankees replace Gil with Cole? Only time can answer that.
