Klay Thompson was an integral part of the Golden State Warriors. Now that he is leaving the team, he has already established himself as one of the biggest franchise icons. Moreover, he sure is a future Hall of Famer. But the sharpshooter believes he still has a lot of basketball left in him before he hangs his boots. However, the veteran shooting guard won’t be part of the Dubs anymore. That does not make the Dub Nation very happy. Moreover, the other two icons of the club – Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have wished their ‘Splash Brother’ the best for his future endeavors.

But the main reason why Klay Thompson decided to move to the Dallas Mavericks was his need for change. Clearly, the sharpshooter from Portland had a tough time last year. ‘Killa Klay’ had one of his worst scoring averages in the previous season. It was, in fact, his lowest mark since the 2012-2013 season. Moreover, injuries have played their part in slowing down the veteran shooting guard. Lately, Thompson broke his silence after announcing his departure from the Warriors.

It has been an “End of an Era” phase for the Dub Nation. After all, they had to bid goodbye to Klay Thompson, who helped the franchise win four NBA championships. It is the end of the journey for the ‘Splash Brothers’ – Stephen Curry & Klay Thompson. For the first time in forever, the fans will see the veteran shooting guard play against the Warriors. That new journey will begin in the next season. On Tuesday, during his introductory press conference for the Dallas Mavericks, Klay broke his silence on his shocking departure from the GSW. He was sitting alongside fellow free agent signees Quentin Grimes and Naji Marshall at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Thompson explained why he feels good about leaving the only team he has played for so long in the NBA. Moreover, the veteran shooting guard mentioned, “Change can spur greatness and can do wonders.” Adding to that, the sharpshooter noted that this theory is applicable not just for basketball but also for anyone working in the corporate world and even elsewhere. Moreover, Thompson expressed his gratitude to the Warriors for the time he was part of the team. However, he said that he thought moving on could re-energize him so that he can do something special for the time that’s left in his NBA career.

The contract situation between Thompson and the Warriors has been very tense since last year. Finally, in the current offseason, the veteran guard signed a three-year deal that’s worth $50 million with the last season’s runners-up. During the introductory press conference, Klay Thompson said everybody expects him to be that “All-NBA player,” but it is really tough. He added that times were really tough last year. Moreover, he said that there was a point when he was feeling disappointed.

Then, he had some time to reflect and finally, Klay realized that nobody can take the legendary achievements he had with the GSW away from him. He said, “Records are made to be broken but the impact on the community and all those things will live forever.” Hence, Thompson felt to do what’s right, “Breakups are necessary sometimes.” Finally, he said that he feels super excited to play for a new city and will embrace the opportunity.
