New York Yankees is widely regarded as one of the most successful sporting franchises in the world. In the past century, the club has had 27 World Series titles to its name. It remained an undefeatable team for the longest time in the history of Major League Baseball. However, times have changed as the game of baseball has evolved over recent years.

The Yankees have lost their old charm. While the hardcore fan base is still intact, the team, as a whole, is failing to live up to standards and expectations. The club’s failure to win a ring in the past 13 years serves as a perfect example of how the unit is incapable of crossing the finish line. Meanwhile, as the 2023 season rages towards the postseason, questions over the Yank’s competency to win a championship have once again picked up pace.

The New York Yankees’ second half of the 2023 MLB season began on the worst possible note. They lost a series to a lowly Colorado Rockies, who has a worse record in National League. After winning the second game, the team blew out in the rubber game on the next day. The hitters failed to turn up as Gerrit Cole‘s salient efforts got wasted tragically. Undoubtedly, the manager of the roster, Aaron Boone, had to face the wrath of the media. During the post-game press meet, Boone was asked if he still believed the unit he was leading was capable of winning a championship. To this, the skipper had a very honest take.

Aaron Boone said that it’s on the team to put themselves back into a position where they could be considered a championship-caliber team. Right now, the Yankees are clearly struggling. But they still have two months at their helm to turn things around. Boone also added that the criticism is never going to stop. The expectations in New York always remain high, and the team is fully aware of it. Hence, they have to script their own fate from here. The manager assured me that the team is working hard day in and out to change things and get back to winning ways. It’s just a matter of time before things start happening their way.

American League All-Star starter and Yankees ace pitcher Gerrit Cole was back on the mound to earn the team a perfect series victory post-break. He delivered by recording 11 strikeouts in six innings while giving away only one run. With the latest outing, Cole surpassed Ron Guidry to become the Yankee pitcher to have the most double-digit strikeout performances in the franchise’s 120-year history. However, little did the pitcher know the evening was going to end up being an absolute nightmare.

The bullpen, especially Tommy Kahnle, blew out Gerrit Cole’s near-perfect start. The Yankees were leading by two runs till the eighth innings when the Rockies scored four runs. The game got pushed to the 11th inning, where the Rockies completely outclassed the Yanks. The hitters failed to score against Rockies starter Chase Anderson who entered the game with an ERA of over 6. At the end of the day, the Yankees lost the first series after the break and plunged down further into East Division.
