Are The Yankees Signing Trevor Bauer? Uncertainty Lies As Teams Unwilling To Sign The Pitcher

LA Dodgers acquired Trevor Bauer in 2021. However, Trevor remained unavailable for the majority of the season owing to an off-field controversy. In 2021, MLB imposed a ban of 324 games on Trevor Bauer (later reduced to 192) following sexual assault charges by multiple women. Hence, the Dodgers decided against his retention. Moreover, the deadline ended yesterday, and now Trevor is a free agent.

Trevor Bauer has not stayed much active in the field last two years owing to a personal crisis. Hence, it could be difficult for him to find a good team this off-season. Meanwhile, reports emerged that he is in talks with the Mets and the Yankees. However, according to an MLB insider, neither the Mets nor Yankees are interested in the pitcher, and he is likely to stay out of the league for the upcoming season.

After being left hanging by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Trevor Bauer laid his hopes on New York Mets and New York Yankees for a spot in their bullpen. However, Trevor’s past history is working against him. Moreover, the Yankees already have a set bullpen. As far as the Mets are concerned, an insider revealed that they were relieved and “dodged a bullet” when Trevor rejected them for the Dodgers in 2020.

An MLB insider, Jon Heyman, states that both the New York clubs are unwilling to bring Trevor on board. Trevor, who is looking for a comeback after serving a 192-game suspension, is unlikely to feature in the MLB next season. For the Yankees, they have spent this off-season enough and have a lineup roster. Moreover, the Mets, too, would not want Trevor due to his personal baggage.

“Mets and Yankees won’t go for Trevor Bauer,” said Jon Heyman.

Trevor Banned By MLB Following Sexual Assault Charges

In mid-2021, a woman accused Trevor Bauer of sexually assaulting her. Hence, as an aftermath, the MLB sent Trevor on administrative leave as he was under investigation. Further, as the case hearing prolonged, MLB put him on hold for the entire season. To make the matters worse, two more women came forward with separate charges against the picture during the MLB investigation. In the end, MLB imposed a 324-game ban on the pitcher. However, after an appeal, the ban was reduced to 192 games.

The 2023 off-season will end in less than two months. Hence, Trevor Bauer still has time to bag a contract. But for now, the doors to the Mets/Yankees seem to be closing in on the pitcher. The Yankees already signed Carlos Rodon to lead the pitching duties. Moreover, they spent huge amounts of money on their skipper, Aaron Judge to keep him within the fold. Hence, they are out of funds. However, there’s still hope for Trevor before the off-season ends.
