The Lakers have stocked up on additional point guards this summer, a little past their prime. Earlier this summer, the team acquired Patrick Beverley, another seasoned point guard in a trade. Also, Dennis Schröder, a former Lakers starter, was just signed this week. Both players appear a better fit for a Los Angeles team that should be built around the playmaking of its greatest player, All-NBA forward LeBron James.

This raises the idea that president Rob Pelinka has a deal for Russell Westbrook in mind for a later date this year. That would undoubtedly account for the signings of Schröder and Beverley to an already crowded backcourt. The Athletic\’s Jovan Buha and Sam Amick reported that Westbrook being used as a reserve this season is a serious possibility.
