New York Yankees prospect Anthony Volpe recently received a hilarious welcome from captain Aaron Judge after the team inducted the 21-year-old shortstop to the opening-day roster.

Anthony Volpe changed the course of his life in these two months of spring training. After a surprise call-up, the shortstop entered into a fierce shortstop battle with much senior Isiah Kiner-Falefa and fellow prospect Oswald Peraza. However, the fearless 21-year-old kept his head down and worked hard than any other player in the bullpen and successfully claimed the starting shortstop position.

On Sunday, Anthony Volpe got called in by manager Aaron Boone, who gave him the life-changing news. The prospect couldn’t stay in touch with reality and felt extremely overwhelmed as he greeted his family thereafter. Meanwhile, the shortstop shared a hilarious incident involving Captain Aaron Judge while discussing how his teammates in the Yankees camp reacted to the news.

Meanwhile, New York Yankees captain, Aaron Judge, is a man with funny bones. The 6-foot-7 beast is a soft-hearted go-to man in the Bombers’ camp. Recently, when Anthony Volpe received the news of his opening day roster induction, Aaron apparently, called him and pulled his leg. Further, he asked Volpe if he was packing his bags to move back to Scranton, the Yankees’ minor league affiliate team.

Furthermore, the incident shared by Anthony Volpe quickly went viral, with fans praising Judge’s sense of humor and his willingness to make the younger players feel welcome. They took to Twitter to praise the captain’s humility and kind attitude. Judge, who remains widely regarded as one of the best players in baseball, has been a mentor to many of the younger players on the Yankees’ roster. Moreover, Judge is known for his positive attitude and his willingness to help his teammates in any way possible. Hence, this case of a potential bromance does not come as a surprise.

Anthony Volpe Impresses Yankees Front Office

While the New York Yankees took an eternity to declare the shortstop winner, the front office now claims they were sure of Anthony Volpe making it to the final roster for quite some time now. Brian Cashman said he knew Volpe would eventually steal the show but wanted to give an equal opportunity to IKF and Oswald Peraza in the contest. Further, Aaron Boone, the skipper, said he was confident of Anthony Volpe making it as the ultimate shortstop of the opening day very early into spring training.

However, since he had an equal amount of faith in Peraza, Boone waited for the whole spring training before making a final decision. Further, the front office views Volpe as their long-term shortstop solution as they intend to keep him for the longest time possible. Moreover, the team is also planning on giving Oswald a different space in the minor league. Apparently, the team wants to see him in the majors at some point in the future. Hence, with Volpe at the top, Peraza could handle a different spot in the lineup.
