Recently, Alejandro Davidovic Fokina grabbed the tennis world\’s attention after his spectacular performance at the Monte Carlo Masters. The 22-year-old started his campaign in the second round at the Monte Carlo. The young Spaniard managed to clinch a 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 win over world no. 1 Novak Djokovic. Fokina also defeated Taylor Fritz and Gregor Dimitrov to make it to the finals of the Monte Masters.

However, Stefanos Tsitsipas ended Fokina\’s title dream by defeating him in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3), in just an hour and a half. Although Alejandro\’s performance at the tournament impressed everyone as he managed to jump 30 spots to reach the 62nd position in the ATP rankings. 

   

The 21-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal also praised Fokina for a clinical effort during his maiden Masters 1000 finals. Recently, Alejandro was asked about his idol during his interview with Tennis Major. The Spaniard revealed that Roger Federer was his inspiration. Fokina even cried with the Swiss giant after the latter faced a defeat against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open finals in 2009.

Back in 2009, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were up against each other at the Australian Open finals. The Swiss entered the finals after attaining a straight-set victory against Andy Roddick. Further, Federer met Nadal in the finals, which turned out to be one of the most disappointing losses for the Swiss maestro. During a fierce battle in Melbourne, Nadal clinched the first and third sets while Federer managed to attain the second and fourth sets. However, Nadal handed a big upset to Federer in the deciding set and won his maiden Australian Open title. 

Recently, Alejandro Davidovic Fokina revealed that his idol is Roger Federer. The young Spaniard grew up watching Roger and feels their personalities are much similar. Alejandro revealed that he is an emotional person. Moreover, Fokina opened up that he cries a lot when he loses matches. Alejandro confessed to crying after his idol Federer lost against Nadal at the Australian Open finals in 2009.

The 22-year-old made a statement with his incredible performance in Principality. Unfortunately, he missed his maiden title in the finals. However, Fokina will have another chance to secure a title at the Barcelona Open. He will play his first game of the tournament against Hugo Dellien on Tuesday.
