The Yankees defeated the Guardians on Tuesday in the pivotal Game 5 to progress to a matchup against the Houston Astros in the ALCS. The Yankees have not yet announced who would replace Hicks on the ALCS roster. But they are hopeful that dynamic infielder D.J. LeMahieu will be able to play again after suffering a right foot injury. Oswald Peraza, a shortstop who wasn\’t selected for New York\’s ALDS team, is one possibility.

Using Peraza at short and keeping Cabrera in left field, where he competed in the three games of the ALDS, would enable Boone and the coaching staff to win. Tim Locastro, who participated in 26 games of outfield action for the Yankees this year, is also a possibility. He has hit .186 this year. But his projections are primarily as a defensive substitute and pinch runner.
