Red Bull starlet Max Verstappen took a giant leap towards his fourth consecutive world title after a phenomenal Interlagos showdown. The Dutchman ended his 10-race winless drought and clinched his first silverware after the Spanish GP in June. This victory shattered Lando Norris’ world title dream as he finished sixth despite a pole start. The triple champion now holds a 62-point lead over Norris and could secure his place as a world champion trophy in Las Vegas.
Lando Norris has failed to capitalize on a faster car, and his inexperience has forced him to commit several on-track blunders. Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko is a constant critic of Norris. Earlier, he made a shocking remark, referring to the Mclaren racer as “mentally weak.” Recently, a fake quote emerged online, falsely claiming Hamilton would have beaten Verstappen if he had been in one of McLaren’s cars. The fake statement reached the Sky Sports broadcast room, and Martin Brundle gave his reaction.
Fake ‘Potshot’ Reaches Sky Sports Broadcast, Brundle Responds
The fake quote made its way onto a live Sky Sports News broadcast on Monday, prompting a response from Martin Brundle. He dismissed the claim as just another “potshot” in the ongoing rivalry between Red Bull and McLaren. Brundle acknowledged that this type of one-upmanship is common in Formula 1, recalling how similar tensions existed between Red Bull and Mercedes in the past. While he expressed appreciation for the competitiveness that such rivalries bring to the sport, he clarified that although Lewis Hamilton is undeniably one of the sport’s all-time greats, he didn’t believe there was anything in Hamilton’s performance this year that would have made a significant difference in securing a world championship over Max Verstappen and Red Bull.
Brundle also pointed out that Hamilton currently sits seventh in the World Championship, just two points behind his teammate, George Russell. While Hamilton’s victories at Silverstone and Spa were impressive, the latter being due to Russell’s disqualification, Brundle emphasized that these results didn’t showcase a performance capable of dethroning Verstappen from his dominant position.
Lewis Hamilton Talks About ‘Devastating’ Second Half Of 2024 Season
After the race at Interlagos, Lewis Hamilton opened up about the frustration of ending his Mercedes career on a disappointing note with only three races left in the 2024 F1 season. He expressed how difficult it felt to experience a string of poor performances in the second half of the season. Hamilton acknowledged the team’s struggles, admitting that despite everyone’s efforts, the results have been far from acceptable. He took personal responsibility for the situation, stating that he was doing his best with the available resources.
Hamilton also pointed out that the car’s performance during the weekend had been particularly problematic. Despite the team’s efforts, he couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause of the issues but emphasized the need for further investigation. He refrained from focusing too much on the car, describing it as “no good” and acknowledging that the entire weekend had been disappointing, from qualifying to the sprint race.
