Formidable slugger Aaron Judge and right-handed starting pitcher Luis Severino were both products of the New York Yankees minor league system. The duo worked hard behind the scenes to rise up the ranks and make a name for themselves in major league baseball.

However, injuries largely plagued Luis Severino’s career. He dealt with inconsistencies and pressure to live up to the rookie year hype. Moreover, with a career-worst season in 2023, the Yankees eventually decided to cut ties. That being said, Aaron Judge and Severino will meet again in the upcoming Subway series with the Mets. But this time, as opponents.

The New York Yankees pulled the plug on starting pitcher Luis Severino this off-season after a 6.65 ERA season in 2023 doomed the team’s postseason aspirations. Luis bid farewell to the Bronx after eight years and found a new home across the subway at New York Mets. Interestingly, the change of scenery worked well for Severino, as he is boasting a 3.52 ERA this year. That being said, since the off-season release, Luis Severino will come face to face with the Yanks this week in the 2-game subway series. However, Luis is not scheduled to start in the series and that brings a sense of relief for captain Aaron Judge. The captain and Luis worked closely together over the years as a part of the franchise’s farm system.

Hence, Aaron Judge knows first-hand the kind of threat Luis Severino can be to a hitter. However, while Judge is happy to see Luis thrive in the Mets, he low-key wishes that the pitcher had a resurgence in pinstripes instead. “I wish he was still here in pinstripes having this comeback season, but he’s still in New York,” Judge said to the NY Post. Not only that, Judge argued that perhaps the change of scenery worked in Severino’s favour as his numbers have been far better compared to his post-Covid era days. Also, the pitcher has not been hurt this year. He came off through a normal off-season, which helped with the overall build-up. Indeed, Luis Severino seems much better with the Mets. He will see the Yankees again in Citi Field on Tuesday but from the dugout.

In a major shuffle to the New York Yankees starting lineup, captain Aaron Judge is expected to move as the designated hitter for the upcoming series against the New York Mets. Giancarlo Stanton is hurt and sidelined for four weeks with a hamstring strain. He was put on IL last Sunday as Judge played DH on the very same day.

Trent Grisham, the fourth outfielder, played centre fielder for Aaron Judge. Moreover, with no backups in place, the New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Judge will see more DH days henceforth. This will not only help with the accommodation of backup outfielder Trent Grisham but also align with the captain’s workload management plan.
