The New York Yankees have always been a powerhouse of talents with the likes of Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe ruling the league after getting groomed in the farm system. Meanwhile, Jasson Dominguez, widely known as the Martian, is yet another promising talent coming off the Yanks minor league system.

Jasson Dominguez broke the floodgates upon his major league debut in September 2023. However, a torn ligament injury forced him into Tommy John injury which led to a 7-8 months layoff. That being said, the Martian is finally healthy and the New York Yankees have confirmed his roster decision amid much specualtions.

Jasson Dominguez, often referred to as “The Martian” for his otherworldly talent, has been diligently working his way back from a UCL tear injury that sidelined him in September last MLB season. The kid was in the midst of an iconic debut in pinstripes before fate decided to test his resilience. The New York Yankees eventually shut him down for the year, supervised his Tommy John surgery, and put him under 7-8 months of rehabilitation. Jasson has since been building up gradually. He was put on a rehab assignment with Single-A Tarpons last month before getting it upgraded to Triple-A two weeks later. Dominguez completed his 20-game rehab stint in Triple-A this week, and the Yanks officially reinstated him from IL.

However, for the time being, the New York Yankees have optioned Jasson Dominguez to Triple-A  Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Notably, the franchise is extremely vigilant when it comes to protecting Dominguez’s long-term future, as they view him as the future leader of the club. Additionally, the Yanks already have an overflowing depth in the outfield.

Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham are fighting for those 3 outfield spots every day. Hence, there simply isn’t any space left for Jasson on the main lineup momentarily. Also, given his health status, Triple-A is the ideal place for Dominguez until September, when the roster expands. So far, the slugger has shown tremendous potential in his rehab stint as he slashed .368/.415/.658. Notably, to accommodate Jasson Dominguez on the 40-man roster, injured Jon Berti has been moved to 60-day IL.

The much-anticipated return of ace Gerrit Cole is just writing on the wall. However, the waiting game continues to perpetuate as the reigning AL CY Young pitcher navigates his rehab assignment. Since last week, Cole has pitched two rehab starts while increasing his innings count significantly. He is expected to further build up on Friday, which will be his third rehab start.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has confirmed the date of Gerrit Cole’s third minor league rehab start. But he refused to determine if it would be his last or if the ace would be required to undergo any more and when. However, as per rumors, Gerrit Cole is expected to throw four starts, with his potential return timeline scheduled for June 25.
