Alex Verdugo, left handed hitter and outfielder, got traded to New York Yankees this off-season as his former team Boston Red Sox cut ties with Alex after a tumultuous season. Verdugo’s final year at Boston was a bumpy ride as he was benched for unprofessional behaviour.

Moreover, things got heated up when Alex Verdugo called out Red Sox manager Alex Cora for his lack of support in a subtle dig during his introductory press conference with the New York Yankees. However, months later, Verdugo finally broke his silence and revealed what exactly went wrong with Cora and him, which led to a massive fallout.

Outfielder Alex Verdugo was benched in his final year at Boston Red Sox, citing unprofessional behavior. As he switched to the New York Yankees following an off-season trade, Verdugo fired subtle shots at his former team and manager, Alex Cora, for being hard on him. Verdugo said he adores managers like Aaron Boone, who backed their players amid tough phases unlike Cora, who tossed people up. While the slugger didn’t name Alex Cora, it was understood what issues Verdugo wanted to point out. That statement made during the introductory press conference triggered a massive debate as Verdugo became a soft target of criticism and hate from Red Sox fans as well as former players.

That being said, Alex Verdugo finally cleared the air about his supposed strained relationship with Red Sox manager Alex Cora while talking to Chris Cotillo of MassLive. Verdugo said his statements were taken out of context and blown out of proportion. “Everybody made it that, like, we can’t even be around each other. But really, he just wanted the best for me,” Verdugo said. Not only that, the Yankees outfielder added that the 2023 season was a grind for the Red Sox. And amid tough situations, tensions tend to flare, and that’s exactly what happened between Cora and him. However, Verdugo insisted that these clashes are normal and that he has immense mutual respect for Cora as a person, father, and friend. “We’re still all good in those regards,” the left-hander added. Having said that, Alex Verdugo has moved on from the Red Sox and is having the time of his life in the Bronx with the Yankees.

The New York Yankees will face arch-rivals Boston Red Sox this week at the Fenway Park. Alex Verdugo will face his former team for the first time since off-season trade and he got all emotional while reminiscing old memories with the club. Verdugo called Fenway Park his favourite ball park as he loves the atmosphere.

Not only that, Alex Verdugo added that he has tons of friends and family as well at Boston and to be able to reconnect with them this year will be a surreal moment for him. “I really loved the organization. It was more of just wanting to be in a winning atmosphere,” Verdugo said.
