New York Yankees fan favorite Aaron Judge might appear as a 6-foot-7 beast on a baseball field. But in reality, he is a soft-hearted person who rarely voices his displeasure over anything. However, that changed last weekend when Judge channeled his rare, aggressive side against plate umpire Ryan Blakney. Batting against the Tigers, Blakney called a controversial third strike on Judge, which the latter didn’t approve of, and voiced his displeasure with some strong words. But Judge was mostly respectful, and to avoid a confrontation, he walked back to the dugout before Ryan tossed him in a fit of rage. The entire Yankee stadium and dugout were stunned to see Judge getting ejected over nothing. The captain was bewildered, and he rushed back to confront the umpire.
Meanwhile, Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who played a mediator in what could have been an ugly face-off, revealed on the Talkin Yanks podcast that Aaron Judge didn’t deserve to be ejected. He was not even remotely close to being aggressive. And Boone insisted that umpire Ryan Blakney made a soft call. However, the skipper went on to reveal that he had a fun conversation with Judge back in the clubhouse as the Yankees ended up winning the game. Boone, who himself has a record of ejections in his career as a manager, welcomed Judge to the ejection club by awarding him the game ball. Notably, Boone was ejected seven times last season, which is tied to Cincinnati Reds skipper David Bell for the most in MLB. Not only that, earlier this season, Boone got wrongfully ejected by umpire Hunter Wendelstedt over a fan’s yelling.
Aaron Judge Stays Respectful Of Ryan Blakney After Soft Eejection
New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge wasn’t happy and extremely bewildered by plate umpire Ryan Blakney’s soft ejection. Judge appeared for an interview after the game and expressed his displeasure. The captain claimed that he was left off the hook for much worse incidents in his career previously.
Hence, the career first ejection surely came as a surprise. Aaron Judge revealed that due to crowd’s unusual reaction, he thought something was off and as he rolled back, he saw himself getting tossed. However, despite everything, Judge said he has huge respect for Ryan Blakney as an umpire’s job is extremely tough and they try to do their best.
