The New York Yankees, after dominating at home with two back-to-back series wins, jetted off to a road trip on Thursday. For the impending three-game series against Cleveland Guardians, the Yanks touched down in the city on time. However, bad weather played spoilsport and resulted in season first postponement.
New York Yankees’ series opener against Guardians on Friday was postponed due to rain. Instead the two sides will clash into a double header on Saturday. However, due to schedule changes, the Bronx Bombers have been forced to insert a sixth starter and accordingly called up a promising reinforcement from Triple-A.
Yankees Call Up Cody Poteet To Start In Game 2 Of Doubleheader Vs Guardians!
The New York Yankees, already a man down in the starting rotation due to Gerrit Cole‘s injury, faced a setback after their Friday game against Cleveland Guardians was moved to Saturday, thus setting up a doubleheader. The postponement due to adverse weather conditions forced the Yanks to look out for a sixth starter. With Clarke Schmidt scheduled for Game 1, the Yanks called up Cody Poteet from Triple-A to start in Game 2 on Saturday. Luis Gil will continue with his originally scheduled Sunday start. Notably, Poteet appeared an active contender for the fifth starter role before Luis Gil bagged the spot with an impressive spring stint. Regardless, with the schedule getting altered due to unfavorable weather conditions, Poteet finally has a chance to prove himself.
Since Cody Poteet already remains on the New York Yankees 40-man roster, no immediate moves are required for his promotion. Also, the upcoming start will be the pitcher’s first-ever MLB appearance since July 2022. Needless to say, for Poteet, the call-up represents a well-deserved opportunity to showcase his skills at the highest level once again. With his talent, determination, and competitive spirit, Poteet has the potential to be a valuable asset. That being said, it remains to be seen as to how long manager Aaron Boone plans on stretching Poteet on the mound for his season-first appearance. If it turns out to be a disaster, Boone must keep his relief troops ready and in order. Doubleheaders are never easy on the players. Therefore, it is imperative that the club draw up the necessary backup plans.
DJ LeMahieu’s Heath Status Ahead Of Cleveland Doubleheader!
New York Yankees veteran infield DJ LeMahieu has exceeded his 10-day IL deadline last week. But is yet to get reinstated. The third baseman got hit on the foot in spring and has been recovering on the sidelines ever since. Notably, LeMahieu took on-field batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday afternoon prior to the game against Miami Marlins.
Not only that, DJ LeMahieu traveled with the team to Cleveland for the upcoming road series against Guardians. While DJ will remain with the team during the entire road stretch, he is unlikely to take the field anytime soon. The Yankees have been extra cautious with his troubling right foot and wouldn’t rush him until he attains complete fitness.
