Anthony Volpe, a highly touted prospect drafted by the Yankees in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft, made his much-anticipated MLB debut in 2023. Despite limited playing time, Volpe showcased his potential with his stellar performance on both offense and defense.

Anthony Volpe displayed excellent plate discipline, a knack for making contact, and surprising power for his size. Additionally, his defensive prowess at shortstop earned him praise from teammates and coaches alike. Having said that, as the rookie enters his sophomore season in 2024, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden touted Volpe as a player he expects to explode offensively this coming season.

As the New York Yankees gear up for the 2024 MLB season, one player who has generated significant buzz among fans and analysts is rookie infielder Anthony Volpe. After an impressive debut season in 2023, many are wondering if Volpe has what it takes to explode onto the scene in his sophomore year in the Bronx. Volpe entered his debut season with a lot of hype. However, it failed to keep up with the major league’s competitiveness. He struggled to break the balls and tackle four-seam fastballs. Having said that, ahead of the sophomore season, Jim Bowden of The Athletic listed Anthony Volpe as one of the players he expects to “explode” in 2024. He says fans must cut Volpe some slack as he faced the most demanding fans and in the most difficult market for a rookie.

Even then, Anthony Volpe did a good job. He finished his rookie season with 21 home runs, 24 stolen bases, and 3.3 WAR. That being said, Bowden says Volpe needs to work on his issues with breaking the balls. If he manages to attain a .240-.250 batting average, the shortstop can easily record 24-25 home runs and 30+ stolen bases this upcoming season. Understandably, Volpe had a fairly successful debut year in the Bronx. While his offensive numbers are not staggering, he earned a golden glove for the shortstop position despite missing the postseason. Additionally, the infielder showed a lot of character and discipline. Captain Aaron Judge has had Volpe’s back, and he assured him he would back him till he witnesses a resurgence. Overall, Anthony Volpe seems to be destined for success, and the next big thing is waiting to explode in the pinstripes.
