The New York Yankees have been pretty busy this offseason. They really needed to make significant changes this winter. And that’s what they did. Now, before the Spring Training begins the NY side can be proud of what they got. Moreover, they have done a remarkable job landing Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. Even if the Dominican Slugger would wear the Pinstripe uniform for a year only, as it seems, his addition automatically bolsters the team’s offense. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers had real weakness in their offense and outfield. When they went all-in for Juan Soto, even for a year deal, it proved the Yankees were determined to change the last season’s outcome.
They don’t want to repeat the failure of 2023. Hence, they added Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham as well. Later, they signed the hurler Marcus Stroman for a two-year deal worth $37 million. Hence, the Yankees have been pretty busy lately improving all their departments. However, it has been a pretty long off-season for the NY side. It started in October. Clearly, the reason for the unusual timing was the team’s failure to make the postseason. Since then, the Yankees have improved a lot. But perhaps there are a few more additions around the corner for them.
There Might Be A Few More Roster Spots Up For Grabs This Offseason
The Spring training is soon approaching. Moreover, the players are getting ready and gearing up for that. On Wednesday, the Yankees will get a fresh start with the catchers and pitchers reporting to spring training. The position players will join after five days. Albeit, several position players are already at the Tampa complex for the club’s player development, working out. It will take another seven weeks for the real games to begin. But in the spring training, the Yankees will find out who’s in the best shape of their careers. Then, again some players might show weakness and admit to be not 100% healthy.
Moreover, the NY side might also get to see who added some pitches and some might tweak their swings. According to The New York Post, now is the time to figure out the Yankees Opening Day projected roster. If surprisingly enough, things go as per the Yankees plans, there still might be two or three spots open on the 26-man roster. Now, there are still a few quality free agents available. Who’ll get a chance to grab one of the roster spots in the Bronx? The Yankees might finally give in and sign Blake Snell. But it seems to be a little too far-fetched dream for the fans.
Who Else Can Join The Yankees Before The Spring Training Starts?
For a long time, Cody Bellinger was in the minds of the NY side. But they chose to go in a different direction. Finally, they might sign Cody Bellinger ahead of the Spring Training. However, at present, the Yankees look pretty good at their outfield. Moreover, the fans are waiting to see some magic from the Juan Soto-Aaron Judge duo.
But what about their starting pitcher conundrum? The Yankees need one ace pitcher to fit alongside Gerrit Cole. But the best one out there is Blake Snell. His asking price is too high. Either the Yankees or Snell has to give in to come to an agreement. Otherwise, the Yankees pitching department looks a bit shaky this year.
