Luis Severino, once regarded as a promising pitching prospect, signed with the prestigious New York Yankees franchise as a 17-year-old teenager. His 12-year tenure was marked by highs and lows, with standout performances, including All-Star appearances, mixed with injury challenges that sidelined him for significant periods.

However, despite setbacks, the pitcher fought back each time to do justice to his pinstripes. Sadly, Luis Severino hit a new low in the 2023 season, which forced the New York Yankees to part ways. Severino was self-aware and exited the franchise gracefully. While he signed with city rivals, Luis didn’t fail to thank his previous club for the love and opportunities provided over the past decade.

Starting pitcher Luis Severino’s 12-year-old stint with the New York Yankees came to an abrupt end this off-season. After an abysmal 2023 season, a scuffle seemed inevitable. The impending free agent was denied an extension contract. Thus, he entered free agency and landed across the city of New York with the Mets. Yanks’ city rivals secured Severino’s services for one year at an agreed salary of $13 million. Having said that, before the pitcher empties his locker room at the Yankee clubhouse, he expressed gratitude to his home of 12 years, the Bronx Bombers. In a heartfelt post uploaded on his social media handle, Luis penned a long message and acknowledged every person he had ever met at the club.

Firstly, Luis Severino thanked the fans for their unwavering support and for accepting his family as their own. Later, he called the Yankees “greatest organization in the world” and explained how it was his privilege to have donned the pinstripes. “Together, we have all shared amazing memories that I will always cherish. And it has truly been an honor and a privilege to have played for one of the greatest organizations in the world,” said Severino. Not only that, but the pitcher also mentioned Hal Steinbrenner and his family for trusting him with their faith. As far as his teammates are concerned, Luis will always consider him as family. Lastly, the pitcher thanked the medical and condition staff for backing him during his lowest injury phases. “I am thankful for this opportunity to remain a New Yorker and compete in the city I love,” concluded Luis.

Besides the underwhelming performance, another key aspect contributed to Luis Severino’s parting with the New York Yankees. As per Andy Martino of SNY, due to growing differences between the Yankee management and the pitcher over his extended IL stint, Luis felt distanced. Thus, he opted for a change of scenery and joined the Mets.

Luis Severino landed on IL multiple times this season. After a forearm strain delayed his season debut, the pitcher suffered from a hamstring issue. However, even as he felt ready to take the field, the Yankees management delayed his reinstatement, stating precautionary measures. Severino wasn’t pleased with the decision and called it out in an open forum.
