Ahead of the series finale vs. Arizona, the team made a fresh roster move, which saw a key reliever make his way to the injury list.
Tommy Kahnle Placed On 15-Day IL With Shoulder Inflammation
Ahead of the series finale vs. Diamondbacks, the New York Yankees announced a fresh roster move. Reliever Tommy Kahnle was moved to 15-day IL with a shoulder inflammation injury. Thus putting an end to his 2023 MLB season. Kahnle’s season ended in the same fashion that it commenced, with an arm injury. He missed a major portion of the year owing to a right bicep tendinitis injury. However, he bounced back in style. After coming off the IL, the reliever went 18 games without leaking a single allowed run. But not all good things last long. Things went spiraling down for the pitcher from there on, as he posted a 4.44 ERA in the next 25 games.

• Placed RHP Tommy Kahnle on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 9/22) with right shoulder inflammation.
Later, the opposition picked up Tommy Kahnle’s gameplay and began attacking him right away, which put the reliever on the backfoot. Meanwhile, Aaron Boone, the Yankees skipper, shared an update. He said that the injury dates back to Kahnle’s last outing vs. Blue Jays on Wednesday. He could not really recover from that appearance. “Hoping, thinking it’s not too serious, but enough where it was cranky enough to where we wanted to do it,” Boone added. On the other hand, the Bombers recalled reliever Matt Bowman from Triple-A as a corresponding move. The Triple-A season has concluded, which allowed the team to choose from a pool of options freely. Bowman had pitched only twice in pinstripes this year and posted a 13.50 ERA.
Another Lost Yankees Pitcher In Mix For A Return!
Meanwhile, the Yankees have another relief option lying around in the minor league. Frankie Montas, who has remained sidelined for the entire season due to a shoulder injury, recently commenced a rehab assignment in Scranton. He pitched three innings across two appearances and allowed a mere one earned run. Moreover, when asked about the pitcher’s potential return, the Yankee skipper, Aaron Boone, did not rule it out.
Frankie Monats is set to enter free agency at the conclusion of the 2023 season. Thus, his return, more or less, is meaningless. However, it could provide a platform and opportunity for Montas to up his stakes in the market. Moreover, with Tommy Kahnle’s injury, recalling Montas into the relief role would do no harm to anyone. It would be interesting to see what the Yankees decide.
