In a shocking yet anticipated turn of events, reigning AL-East champions, the New York Yankees got officially knocked out of the postseason race. After stumbling to Diamondbacks on Sunday, the team’s mathematical odds ceased to exist. Nevertheless, the Yanks still have a few games left on the schedule, which could help to secure the pride of the storied franchise.

The New York Yankees were supposed to host the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-game series over the weekend. However, adverse weather conditions played spoilsport. Thus, the games underwent rescheduling multiple times, including Aaron Judge’s bobblehead game. On Monday, the team played their final home game of the season. But somehow, the fans failed to show up.

After many changes, the New York Yankees played their final home game of the ongoing season vs. the Diamondbacks on Monday. The game, originally scheduled for Saturday, had to be moved due to unfavorable weather conditions. However, despite the match being the last one to take place this year at Yankee Stadium, the fans failed to turn up. Prior to the start of the game, only a handful of people seemed visible in the stands. Later, Yanks announced an official attendance of 41,096, but it seemed overestimated. It’s a testament to fans’ anger and disappointment towards the franchise. They have remained mediocre at best this season and look set to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Meanwhile, MLB fans pounced on the opportunity to mock the Yankees. They even accused them of bringing embarrassment to the whole league. The fans took to social media apps to roast the franchise and its fans alike. Having said that, it’s important to remember that unusual circumstances also played a huge role in the scanty attendance. Firstly, the game was rescheduled and took place on a Monday afternoon. Moreover, the weather remained unideal as it rained persistently throughout the game. All these factors collectively may have forced the fans to remain seated at their comfortable adobe. Nevertheless, the Yankees finished the home season on a high by securing a 6-4 win vs. Arizona in the series finale.

While the fans failed to turn up for the Yankee’s final home game of the season, the team did not fail to put up a strong show. They outperformed the Arizona Diamondbacks to finish the home season on a high. Once again, the Baby Bombers emerged as the top contributors. Austin Wells and Oswald Peraza outshined with a home run each while relievers held off any late attacks.

Wells and Peraza also contributed with two RBIs each to put insurance runs on board in the bottom of the eight innings. Estevan Florial and Everson Pereira jumped on the scoreboard with an RBI each. Overall, it was a collective performance from the hitters as well as the relievers to help the Yankees finish the home season on a positive note. The team now heads on the final road trip before concluding the 2023 MLB season.
