Jose Trevino was one of the regular catching duo of the New York Yankees for the 2023 season. However, the former did not quite live up to the expectation as he posted a mere .210 with four homers in 55 games before falling prey to a season-ending injury. After playing through wrist discomfort for most part of the season, the catcher pulled the plug mid-way.
Jose Trevino risked his health as the Yankees postseason odds fell into jeopardy. The team was in the midst of a four-decade worse losing streak, which prompted Trevino to keep pushing. However, it only worsened his condition as the catcher had to be pulled out by the medical staff for an imminent surgery. Nevertheless, Jose is now gearing up for a return really soon.
Jose Trevino Expects To Be Back By Spring Training Without Any Restrictions!
New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino left the 2023 season mid-way in July owing to a season-ending wrist injury. The minor discomfort worsened with time. It reached a point where the catcher had to pull the plug and head toward the surgical route. Subsequently, he underwent a ligament tear repairing wrist injury and is currently in rehab. Meanwhile, Trevino marked his presence in the Yankee clubhouse during the Yanks series vs. the Diamondbacks. He addressed the media on the sidelines and offered an update on his recovery process. Jose revealed that his rehab process is right on track, and he expects to resume batting practice in a couple of weeks.
Further, Jose Trevino issued a return timeline and said he should be able to return during spring training in February without any restrictions. Having said that, Trevino’s position in the Yankees roster for the forthcoming 2024 season isn’t guaranteed. Austin Wells, the thriving prospect, has been doing a fantastic job since their September debut. He has been able to gel well with the team and is pretty decent behind the plate. While Wells’ offensive numbers have remained subpar, his left-handed skills are likely to work in his favor. Regardless, Trevino is hopeful to return in pinstripes in 2024 to help the Yanks fall back into World Series contention.
Yankees Skipper Hints At Frankie Montas’ Imminent Return!
Frankie Montas’ 2023 season ended even before it commenced owing to a shoulder injury that relapsed just weeks before spring training. Montas, who was traded in mid-2022, failed to match expectations as injury woes grappled with his playing time. This season as well, Montas was expected to miss the entire season as he underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery in February. However, the tables turned last week when the pitcher began a rehab assignment with Triple-A.
The rehab assignment commencement gave rise to an alleged return speculation. Aaron Boone, the Yankees skipper, addressed the rumors and said that Frankie Montas’ return this season is, in fact, a possibility. Moreover, the team is talking about the possibility while keeping an eye on his progress in Scranton. Having said that, the Yanks have six games left on the regular season schedule. That leaves little room for Montas’ comeback.
