It is clear as crystal that Mercedes is looking for redemption after struggling throughout the season. They have not won a single race this season this year. But what is more annoying for them is the fact that their rival, Red Bull, has won all of them. In the last two seasons, the Brackley team has won only one race so far in the Brazilian Grand Prix last year. However, their rival, the Austrian team, has won 31 races in the last two years. On top of that, the current season is not yet over, as there are still eight more races remaining.
Adding more fuel to the fire, the last race in Monza was terrible for Mercedes as they finished third behind Red Bull and Ferrari. The Silver Arrows’ drivers drivers finished at P5 and P6 in the Italian Grand Prix. At the point, the team blamed the low downforce track of Monza for their failure. However, they are now hopeful about the high downforce track in the Singaporean Grand Prix. On the other hand, Red Bull drivers are apparently not too happy about the street circuit of the Singaporean GP.
Mercedes Believes High Downforce Track In Singapore Will Suit Them Better
Reportedly, Lewis Hamilton believes his prediction is right that the race in Marina Bay will be better for Mercedes than what happened in Monza. The seven-time champion believes when the W14 car puts on the high downforce wing, it performs better. Moreover, the Singapore track provides the perfect high downforce conditions the W14 car needs. Both George Russell and Toto Wolff echoed Lewis Hamilton in saying that they might be more competitive in the Singaporean Grand Prix.
But George Russell pointed out the difference between the high and low downforce package of the Brackley team. The team always struggles at the tracks of Spa, Baku, Monza, and so on. But they always perform better on the higher side. Hence, the team must find the reason why, but Mercedes is hopeful about a different story in Marina Bay after the failure in the last race.
Can Toto Wolff’s Team Get Their First Win In Singapore?
Since the introduction of the cost cap rules and regulations, the gap between Mercedes and Red Bull has increased to a great extent. Moreover, the former constructor champions have been struggling tremendously with their car. Being the former champions who dominated the grid for eight years in a row, not being able to win a single race is very annoying and upsetting. Moreover, Red Bull’s dominance is making the sport look boring. The fans want to see intense drama and competition like in the 2021 season.
But a single team dominating the grid like the way Red Bull has is only fun for Max Verstappen and Red Bull fans. The Austrian team has won 24 of the last 25 races. Moreover, they have won 15 consecutive races in a row, stretching back to the previous year. On the other hand, Mercedes has been introducing new upgrades since the Monaco Grand Prix. They have only managed five podium finishes so far without a single win. The Silver Arrows realize the second-place finish is the best result they can expect from this season. But the goal is always to get their first win of the season.
