Current F1 World Champion & Red Bull star Max Verstappen is undeniably the most dominant force on the grid right now. Never did a Formula One Driver have such a significant win percentage as Max in the last two years. He won as many as 15 races last year and has won ten out of twelve races this season already. Things changed in the sport ever since Max beat the former reigning champion, Lewis Hamilton, in 2021. It was one of those moments when the championship results came down to the last Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.
The epic season came to an end with Max Verstappen winning his first title. He won ten races that season as well. Hence, for three years in a row, Verstappen has maintained his ten or above race win percentage in a single season. That is why McLaren’s Zak Brown suggests the competition would be totally different if Max were not there in the equation.
Zak Brown Believes Without Max Verstappen, The Championship Would Be Very Exciting
The executive director of racing of McLaren, Zak Brown, recently discussed how Max Verstappen’s subtle dominance over the last two years is hurting the motorsport. As he told ESPN, “With all due respect to Checo, if there were two drivers like him in the Red Bull team, the competition would have been wide open.” Hence, like most teams and fans, McLaren too agrees that Verstappen is the X factor in the competition. If he were not there, then the championship would be so exciting. Looking at the racers from second place, they are almost neck in neck.

Aston Martin and Mercedes could also imagine giving a tough fight to Red Bull with just Sergio Perez. The Dutchman has clearly been a class of his own since last year. Zak Brown also suggested that Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s RB19 have made a deadly combination. The McLaren director feels Red Bull is not making any mistakes this season. That’s the reason why they have won all the races so far. The Austrian team might go on to win all 22 races this year. No other team in history has achieved this feat.
If Checo Drives The Same Car, Then Why Can’t He Be As Consistent As Max?
Red Bull star has been the first-ever racer to get to 15 race wins in a single season. But he can improve upon that if he gets to twenty race wins this season. After the summer break ends, there are still ten more races to go. Can Max Verstappen win it all? Sure, he can if Red Bull can keep the RB19 as strong as it has been this year. Many believe the great success of Verstappen has come because of the incredibly faster Red Bull cars, thanks to Adrian Newey and their engine partners, Honda.
But Max’s teammate, Sergio Perez gets to drive the same car, isn’t he? Well, the Mexican says so as he denies the allegation that Red Bull favored Max, giving him a car of his preferred style. If the car is the same and good for Checo, then why can’t he get the results that his team expects from him? Hence, the question arises about the driver’s abilities. Sergio Perez has not been consistent at all. Clearly, Max Verstappen is a superior driver to Sergio Perez.
