Aaron Boone Explains Why The Team Chose To Let Go Of Aaron Hicks
Former New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks has always been a subject of harsh criticism and trolling owing to his underwhelming performance. The outfielder failed to produce anything last season. Even this year, Hicks scored only one home run. Moreover, as the offensive slump started to creep in, the Yankees had to make a difficult decision. They DFA Aaron Hicks and signed Greg Allen from Boston Red Sox as a like-for-like replacement.
Meanwhile, Aaron Boone, the Yankees manager, appeared for his weekly interview with the Talkin Yanks and addressed the matter. He said Hicks has been with the team for the past seven years. Letting him go was a difficult yet the right decision. Boone further elaborated that there was space for only one in the roster, and the management thought Greg Allen was at a better place skills-wise. Allen has been hitting and running well in the Triple-A and still has a charming form. Hence, for him as a manager, the decision came down to who proved to be the best fit for the left field role, and it happened to be Greg Allen. Regardless, the skipper still feels that it was a difficult decision to let Aaron Hicks go considering his past achievements with the team. Nonetheless, towards the end of the day, he did what he ought was right to do for the team’s betterment.
Yankees Manager Isn’t Concerned About High Number Of Ejections
Aaron Boone, the Yankees manager, has faced three ejections already this season. When asked about what he thinks of it, the manager replied that it’s worth it as long as the team wins. However, the skipper did promise that he would try to slow his pace down. Boone’s first ejection came against the Cleveland Guardians while arguing against an overturned call.
Next, he was tossed against the Toronto Blue Jays after he protested a strike called against captain Aaron Judge. Just a couple of days later, Aaron Boone faced his third ejection against the Cincinnati Reds. He was against the idea of a runner being allowed to score after a video review overturned the foul ball call. Boone was surprised by the ejection and claimed the umpires did not provide a viable explanation. Their indecision led to his frustration.
