A few days back, a rumor came around that Virat Kohli would step down the T20I captain after the T20 captain, and Rohit Sharma will replace him. However, a BCCI Treasurer said this to be a piece of false information. But this very news turned out to be true, and Virat Kohli confirmed this news himself by posting a tweet. The fans of the Indian Cricket team anticipated that sooner or later, it would happen. However, they didn\’t expect him to hear this news from the skipper this soon.

In a statement, Kohli revealed that he has decided to step down as the T20 captain of the Indian Cricket team after the T20 World Cup that would take place in Dubai later this year. Virat Kohli also stated that he has been fortunate enough to represent the nation, and that too as a leader of the Indian team. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his journey as a captain.

In his tweet, Virat Kohli has mentioned that it is quite hard to maintain his workload, and he thinks he needs some space so that he can be fully ready to lead team India in Test and ODI matches. Kohli stated that he had given everything as a T20 captain, and he will continue to do so as a batsman moving forward. He certainly took a lot of time and consulted everyone, including Indian coach Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and the President of BCCI Sourav Ganguly, before taking this decision. The upcoming T20 World Cup will feature Virat Kohli as the captain of the Indian T20 Cricket team for the one last time.

Who Will Become The Next Captain?

There are no updates on who will lead India next in the shorter formats. But it is likely that the current Vice-captain will become the new Skipper of India\’s T20 team. He is the most successful captain of the IPL and has won the trophy for his team more than five teams. On the other hand, Virat Kohli will finally get a chance to focus more on his batting instead of captaincy.

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India has played 45 matches so far. Out of these 45, team India won 29 of the matches and lost 14 of them, whereas two of them ended up in a draw. Now, everyone is expecting Virat Kohli will improve his record even more by winning his first-ever ICC trophy as the captain in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
