In a statement, Kohli revealed that he has decided to step down as the T20 captain of the Indian Cricket team after the T20 World Cup that would take place in Dubai later this year. Virat Kohli also stated that he has been fortunate enough to represent the nation, and that too as a leader of the Indian team. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his journey as a captain.
In his tweet, Virat Kohli has mentioned that it is quite hard to maintain his workload, and he thinks he needs some space so that he can be fully ready to lead team India in Test and ODI matches. Kohli stated that he had given everything as a T20 captain, and he will continue to do so as a batsman moving forward. He certainly took a lot of time and consulted everyone, including Indian coach Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and the President of BCCI Sourav Ganguly, before taking this decision.
