D’Angelo Russell started his professional career with the Lakers in 2015. People looked at him as a future for the Lakers back then. But Russell did not stay in for too long. After a couple of years, the front office of the Lakers traded him to Brooklyn Nets. From the Nets, he was traded to the Warriors in 2019. Later, Russell was traded to the Timberwolves in 2020. Clearly, D’lo has come a long way since then. Although with the Nets, D’lo won his first All-Star selection.

Russell stayed longer with the Timberwolves for three years. In 2023 the Lakers realized that they need him to return to the purple and gold brigade. It was a tough time for the Lakers as they were plagued with injuries and confusion with the balance of the roster. But when Russell came in with a few more entries, they made the team look good. However, things fell apart when he missed several games due to a sprained ankle.

In LeBron James‘ and D’lo’s absence, Anthony Davis took pretty good care of the team. But when Russell came back to the team, the Lakers looked formidable. D’lo returned with a bang as he scored 28 points against the Raptors. Moreover, in the next game against the Knicks, he improved his scoring with 33 points. Albeit, the Knicks won against the Lakers. But undoubtedly, D’Angelo Russell’s return to the purple and gold brigade has made a big difference in their roster.

D’Angelo Russell Is Excited to Have A Great Future With The Lakers

Now, the Lakers are only waiting for LeBron’s return, as then the trio of James, Russell, and Davis would make the team stronger. But for D’Angelo Russell, it seems like a very emotional homecoming. As it feels like this time, he wants to stay with the Lakers for a long time as their main point guard.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski suggested that D’lo, indeed, was looking forward to a second chance representing the purple and gold brigade. Woj mentioned, “He really wants it. You can see that in his performances. He wants to remain as the point guard in the future of the Lakers organization. His contract ends this summer.” It will delight the fans of the Lakers to know what Woj suggests. Russell has always been a fan favorite of the Lakers franchise.

The 27-year-old point guard also wants to help the Lakers win the championship as much as anyone else. But it sure looks like a mutual feeling between the franchise and the player to hold hands for a long time in the future. Apparently, both parties want to discuss the contract extension. If it provides any fruit for the Lakers at present or in the future, only time will tell. But as long as Anthony Davis and LeBron James are there, this trio can wreak havoc. This trio must be advantageous for the purple and gold brigade. D’lo Russell, who started his career with the Lakers, would love to end his career with them.
