The Los Angeles Lakers wanted to make a deal before the season but still have not made many changes to the squad. However, the front office did realize Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards. He came to Los Angeles in exchange for Kendrick Nunn and three second-draft picks to Washington. Meanwhile, the deal brings some fresh perspective to the team but does not make them contenders. So the fans and experts continue to criticize the Lakers for making more moves to make the team more stable. Even LeBron James would not want to waste his last few precious seasons without a trophy.
The trade deadline is still a few days for the Lakers to think about more players who could improve the team. The NBA trade deadline does not close off until February 9. There are many players on the team who are making LA an average squad. So, it would be a great idea for the front office to think about some solutions to counter the problems.
The Lakers Need Better Players
When the season kicked off in October, the Lakers were a lousy team who would want to mix things up with their squad. The first time head coach Darvin Ham had to try different experimenting in order to settle things in the team. But even after trying another thing, LA could not make ends meet. And started the season with the worst record in 65 years in the Lakers’ history. Cut to January, Hollywood is still suffering but has only made one trade to their rescue. The 2020 champs were covered in trade rumors all year round because of their bad performance. All the players have once fallen under trade rumors, even the superstars.
There are players who the front office could use to make an attractive package to lure other teams. Two of those such players are Patrick Beverley and Lonnie Walker IV, who have different worths. Patrick, who is worth $13 million, and Walker, who is worth $6.4 million, will make a package of around $20 million. Although Beverley brings a lot of qualities to the table, he does not make the team better on the court. And many rumors also suggest that the point guard would no longer be needed at the Lakers.
The front office made clear that they would not risk their draft picks if they didn’t see the potential this year. Although it is a fact LA has not been at its best, LeBron James is playing his last few seasons. And many experts believe that the Lakers are disrespecting the greatness of James. Hollywood could have easily sacrificed their future picks to assemble a team that would have won this year’s title.
