The Year 2022 of the Formula One Championship will be remembered for Red Bull\’s dominance, whether it be the Driver\’s title or the constructor\’s championship. Red Bull Driver Max Verstappen has already secured the Driver\’s title at the conclusion of the Japanese Grand Prix. Meanwhile, as the F1 Caravan is now headed to the United States, the Austrian team will aim to seal to deal on the Contractor\’s championship as well.
Can Red Bull Win The Constructor\’s Title In The United States?
This weekend in Texas, Red Bull Racing will attempt to capture the Formula 1 Constructors\’ Championship for the first time since 2013. With 14 victories in the first 18 races of the 2022 season, the Austrian squad has been on a tear. With Mercedes-AMG, the defending champions, out of title contention going into the 19th of this year\’s 22 races, the team boasts a sizable points lead over Ferrari, their closest opponent.
Red Bull has the advantage going into the race with 619 points to Ferrari\’s 454. That is a 165-point advantage. The Bulls need to have a lead of at least 147 points after this weekend\’s race in order to win the Constructors\’ championship for the first time in over ten years. This season\’s remaining 191 points, including those awarded for Brazil\’s Sprint Race, are still up for grabs. In order to win the championship, they simply needs to outscore Ferrari by 18 points. If Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez wins, Ferrari\’s best conceivable result on Sunday would be 34 points. In such a case, they could only beat Red Bull by a maximum of nine points.
A third and fourth-place finish for Red Bull would also be acceptable behind a total of 44 points for Ferrari. The Scuderia would be disqualified from any potential tie-breaking due to Red Bull\’s superior victory total. However, if Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez finish third and fourth, respectively, and Ferrari wins first, second, and the bonus point for the fastest lap, the Italian team will still have a chance to win the championship. With just one point needed to win the championship, Red Bull will thus go to Mexico the following weekend.
Verstappen and Red Bull have dominated the second part of the season. Therefore it seems improbable that Ferrari will finish one-two in America. The Dutchman could not settle for anything less than his 13th victory of the year in two weeks. That accomplishment would be sufficient for the team to take home the constructors\’ championship together with the quickest race lap. Verstappen and Perez will undoubtedly win the constructors\’ championship if they finish ahead of the Ferrari drivers.
