\”F1 Is Working On Improving System For Female Drivers,\” Claims CEO Stefano Domenicali! In No Rush To Add New Racing Teams

Formula One has been a gender-dominant sport since its inception due to the risks and hardships involved. However, motorsport has been working actively to create diversity in terms of race and gender. Women have been clearly supported in important F1 responsibilities. Apparently, there are female engineers working in factories alongside men. However, the concept of a female competing in an F1 championship is still quite far-fetched. 

Recently, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali talked about the steps taken to bring more women into motorsport and possibly create opportunities for them to become F1 drivers in the future. However, the Italian manager claimed that he could not see women competing in Formula 1 in the next five years. The last time a female driver was seen competing in an F1 car was back in 1976.

Lella Lombardi was the last female driver to compete in Formula 1. The Italian racer became the first female driver to have finished in the top six in a World Championship Formula One GP. Additionally, Stefano shared a realistic perspective on the prospect of a female driver in the near future. The 57-year-old said, \”Unless there us something like a meteorite, I don\’t see a girl coming into F1 in the next five years.\”

Meanwhile, Formula 1 has been promoting all-female W Series to create more career opportunities for women drivers. Domenicali stated that he is quite happy with the progress of the W Series, featuring support program races at selected GPs. He also pointed out that women would have to start taking up driving early like men to be able to get equal chances at the same level as the guys. Stefano added, \”We are working on that to see what we can do to improve the system. And you will soon see some action.\”

F1 In No Rush To Add New Teams Like Andretti

F1 CEO suggested that motorsport would not be rushing to add new teams. Domenicali revealed that it is not a problem of quantity but about adding increasing value to the sport. The Italian manager revealed that other than Mario Andretti pushing for an F1 seat with their loud voices, there were other teams who respected the protocols and stayed silent.

Stefano did not think that adding teams would give more value to the championship. The F1 boss pointed out that protocols are required to be fulfilled. And everyone, including Andretti, would have to follow them. Domenicali concluded, \”So this is the situation today. I don\’t see any changes. And I don\’t want to say yes or no.\”
