Mercedes found itself way off the pace compared to Red Bull and Ferrari at the start of the 2022 championship. The Silver Arrows fought to get over the troublesome porpoising issue and find the performance to compete at the front. The bouncing issue frustrated the team and the drivers, who suffered the effects of the phenomenon badly during the race. However, the German manufacturer has had a significant turnaround over the course of the last five racing weekends.

Mercedes managed to get rid of porpoising and found some much-needed place to close the gap at the front. Lewis Hamilton secured five podiums in the last five GPs, with two double podiums in France and Hungary. His teammate George Russell also managed to secure the team\’s first pole position in Budapest. Thus, the Silver Arrows entered the summer break in a much better situation compared to a horrible start. Thus, with the summer break ending this weekend, Mercedes are rumored to be bringing some significant upgrades during the Belgian GP weekend.

Juan Pablo Talks About Mercedes Upgrade Rumors

Recently, former F1 camp Juan Pablo Montoya claimed that he was aware of the rumors that Mercedes is bringing a big, big W13 upgrade to Spa. The former Brazilian driver revealed rumors about Mercedes introducing a major upgrade to their car coming out of the summer break. Pablo warned that if the rumors were true, the Silver Arrows could be on to something big. Juan stated that there were two possibilities about how the upgrade could boost Mercedes\’ progress. Either they would start winning all the nine races and probably have a one-two finish seven or eight times.

If that happens, Mercedes could have a shot at the constructors\’ championship while everyone else struggles. In the other scenario, Mercedes might begin to start fighting against Red Bull and Ferrari. With most of the teams expected to bring upgrades, Pablo felt that Mercedes had a more realistic shot at winning a couple of races if their development went well.

Things could fall in Mercedes\’ favor, as the new technical regulations would come into effect during the Belgian GP. The changes are expected to affect Red Bull and Ferrari\’s pace. And if that happens, the German outfit could have a solid shot of getting ahead of the frontrunners and finally secure their first victory of the 2022 season. At the same time, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff warned his team to be careful and keep the recently achieved momentum during the second half of the 2022 championship.
