Lewis Hamilton showcased once again why he is one of the GOATS in the world of Formula 1 at his favorite track in Hungary on Sunday. The Briton secured his consecutive second-place finish in Budapest and bagged his fifth podium in a row despite Mercedes\’ struggles with their W13 car. He finished just below eight seconds behind the race winner Max Verstappen and recorded the race\’s fastest lap. Moreover, his teammate George Russell finished third to get Mercedes their second consecutive double podium in 2022.
With his impressive run in Hungary, the seven-time world champion achieved another amazing milestone, breaking a 67-year-old F1 record. Lewis has won the Hungarian Grand Prix eight times in the past and also won his first race for Mercedes in Budapest. The 37-year-old has featured in 301 GPs, winning 103 and securing 188 podiums in Formula 1. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton also led the race for a few laps on Sunday ahead of Max Verstappen and broke Bill Vukovich\’s 67-year-old record. Hamilton has now taken over Vukovic to become the driver with most laps led in Budapest. He broke one of the oldest records for the most laps led at a single venue in world championship history.
Previously, the IndyCar legend held the record and won the Indianapolis 500 in 1953 and 1954. After a series of consecutive podiums, Hamilton shared his excitement about the second half of the season. F1 has undergone a three-week summer break after the Hungarian GP as the teams take some time off and regroup for the upcoming races in the season.
Lewis Hamilton Looking Forward To The Second Half Of 2022 Championship
The Briton was quite thrilled with his recent string of performances. He bagged his fifth straight podium and his second consecutive P2 finish. After his amazing performance in Hungary, Lewis said he had no idea why Mercedes was so fast during the second part of the race. The Briton shared that he had his hand full during the beginning of the race and was unsure about his chances of taking on the frontrunners. However, Lewis Hamilton had a good beginning after starting at P7 and went up the grid straight away.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes driver told that he was quite excited for the second half of the season after Mercedes had shown a great deal of improvement in the last few races. Lewis hoped that his team could win the first race of the season during the second half and challenge the frontrunners much harder at the front.
