Can Lewis Hamilton Equalize Max Verstappen\’s Active Points Streak Record At The Hungarian Grand Prix?

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes had a terrible start to the 2022 season as they struggled to get their car right. The W13 is still not good enough to compete with Red Bull and Ferrari for a race win. However, Hamilton has managed to chip in consistently with four-straight podium finishes. The Briton had his season-best outing in France, finishing P2 about ten seconds behind the race winner Max Verstappen. Hamilton had a tough start to the season after he lost his eighth championship title to Verstappen during the 2021 season\’s final race in Abu Dhabi. However, the Silver Arrows managed to win their eight straight constructors\’ championship since 2014.

The regulation change ahead of the 2022 season brought an end to Mercedes\’ dominance since 2013, when the British driver won six championships in the last eight years. Mercedes failed to get their car right. And as a result, they are only the third fastest team across the grid. However, despite all the chaos in the Mercedes camp, Hamilton has proved he is a worthy world champ.

His consistency and ability to extract more from a troubled car is immaculate. The Briton is working really hard to get Mercedes their first race of the season. And it could happen quite soon if the German outfit continues to progress in terms of performance. Lewis achieved a brilliant milestone, becoming the sixth driver to have 300 race starts at the French GP.

Hamilton To Equalize Verstappen\’s Record In Hungary

The Mercedes driver is set to reach another feat if he manages to finish in the top ten during the upcoming race in Hungary. He is about to equalize the reigning world champ Max Verstappen\’s active streak of finishing consistently in points. The Dutchman has the record for the longest streak of finishing in points on nine straight occasions. Hamilton has done it eight times this season after having a pretty rough start to the season.

The 37-year-old also finished on the podium four times in the last four races. Despite not being able to compete at the front this season, Lewis has shown with his consistent point finishes that he is one of the most reliable drivers in F1 currently. Moreover, Mercedes have been quite consistent with the reliability of their W13, which was had no power unit DNFs so far.

Meanwhile, Red Bull and Ferrari have faced a series of power unit issues that cost them points. The Silver Arrows have only a single DNF from George Russell so far. He crashed into Zhou Guanyu during the home race in Silverstone. If Hamilton manages to finish in points during the upcoming weekend, he will be tied with Verstappen for the longest active points streak in F1. In addition, Alpine\’s Fernando Alonso is right behind Hamilton in the third position with seven consistent finishes in points.
