Luis Severino Calls Out Yankees’ Over-Dependence On Aaron Judge-Juan Soto
Luis Severino’s start against the New York Yankees in the Subway series was scratched off at the last minute as the Mets manager revamped the starting rotation. Hence, the pitcher was stripped of his opportunity to face his former team. Interestingly, Severino recently revealed that he is still active in a group chat with some of his former Yankee teammates who teased him of being scared to face the Yanks. However, Luis responded by saying the Bombers have only two good hitters in the lineup, and hence, he has nothing to be scared of. Severino was undoubtedly referred to as Aaron Judge and Juan Soto as the dynamic duo that has been the only consistent hitters in the Yankee lineup since the beginning of the season.
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto own a combined hitting average of .250 and have stacked over 50 home runs in just the first half of the year. Accordingly, they got an opportunity to start as American League outfielders at the recently concluded All-Star game. Hence, Severino’s jibe was somewhat true if you judge by the numbers. That being said, the ex-Yankee pitcher is doing fairly well with the Mets this year. He owns a 6-3 record with a 3.78 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 109.2 innings pitched. While pitching against the Yankees would have been a special moment for Severino, he isn’t scheduled to pitch in next week’s subway series. Hence, his dream will remain unfulfilled for at least this year. Aaron Boone Responds To Luis Severino’s Jibe!
Moments after Luis Severino’s comments on New York Yankees hitting lineup deficiency went viral, manager Aaron Boone stepped up in his team’s defense. He said the season is long and that he will answer him when the dust settles. “We’ll see where the dust settles when we’re all said and done,” said Boone.
Not only that, Aaron Boone stated that despite ugly slumps, the Yankees are still at the top of the league in runs scored and that can only happen when the entire lineup is coming through and not just Aaron Judge or Juan Soto. Hence, Severino’s criticism is incorrect as the stats reveal a completely different picture.
