Jasson Dominguez’s omission from roster expansion moves stunned the fans as they hoped for the kid to replace slumping Alex Verdugo in left field. However, the New York Yankees front office thought otherwise and instructed the top prospect to continue his grind in the minor leagues.

Amid much backlash, Yankees manager Aaron Boone tried to justify the move saying Jasson Dominguez needs more time to ramp up from multiple injury setback incurred in the past year. However, when the fans’ outrage failed to die down, general manager Brian Cashman had to step in and offer a detailed explanation on the questionable roster moves.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman addressed the media ahead of the series against the Chicago Cubs to calm the agitated fans over Jasson Dominguez’s omission. Cashman explained that the front office believes that with Alex Verdugo, the Yanks have a better chance of winning compared to Dominguez. It’s because replacing a veteran outfielder with a rookie just days ahead of the postseason seems an unideal choice. Moreover, the GM claimed that he needs Dominguez to play every day if he were to come up to the big leagues, which is not possible right now due to overflowing depth and workload issues. However, while Jasson didn’t get his due in September, that doesn’t mean he won’t be considered for the rest of the year.

“We certainly have the right to change at some point if we feel that was to our benefit. But right now, this is what we’ve got here,” Brian Cashman said. Addressing the fans’ rage, the Yankees general manager expressed his solidarity. He believes when a team is losing, the obvious mindset is to change things and shake up the roster a little bit to produce a turnaround. Hence, he understands the fans’ sentiments over Jasson Dominguez’s demotion. And the Yankee front office, on their part, is not sitting idle either. Cashman revealed that his team is constantly having discussions on things they can do to improve the roster and deploy the best men they’ve got out there. However, for now, the present combination is ideal to win games, believes Cashman and his team and hence, Dominguez will have to settle for an everyday starter role at Triple-A.

Alex Verdugo Gets Closer To An Unwanted Record!

If having the worst batting average amongst qualified outfielders this season wasn’t enough, Alex Verdugo is set to surpass another unwanted Yankees record. Verugo is just two groundouts away from tying the record for the most groundouts by a Yankee to the right side in a single season.

Alex Verdugo has been groundout 109 times this year whereas the highest tally in the franchise stands at 111. However, the outfielder has been better this past couple of weeks. Entering Friday, Verdugo went 14-for-41 with .341 average and .796 OPS across the last 11 games. However, Alex still needs to be more consistent to help the Yankees win games, especially in postseason.
