Yankees Trade Options: Royals All-Star Catcher & Cardinals Star Baseman Linked To Bombers Ahead Of Trade Deadline

The bottom placeholder of the American League East Division, the New York Yankees, is likely to make big moves at the forthcoming August 1 trade deadline. The primary areas of improvement will remain the outfield. The team needs strong legs that could not only help in defense but majorly in offense. Meanwhile, the Yanks have reportedly added another area of improvement to the shopping list.

This trade season, the Yankees are also looking to bolster the catching depth. The team’s catching situation has been a point of concern, with Jose Trevino and Kyle Higashioka experiencing offensive struggles. While Trevino is hitting at just .214, Higashioka has been just a little better at a .229 batting average. Ahead of the deadline, a veteran All-Star catcher has been linked to the Bombers, who could prove to be a substantial signing.

Salvador Perez is an eight-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove-winning catcher. He has been a cornerstone of the Kansas City Royals franchise for over a decade. Known for his defensive prowess and ability to handle the pitching staff effectively, Perez is also a significant offensive threat. This season, particularly, he is hitting .258 with as many as 15 home runs, 40 RBIs, and .743 OPS. Hence, Perez becomes a perfect candidate for the Yanks to bolster the dead offense. He could be the missing key piece of the club’s lineup. However, the Royals might become a roadblock.

Perez is a high-end veteran in hot form right now. Having said that, the Royals are certainly out of playoff contention, which might prompt them to become sellers. An exchange barter would be tricky. If the Royals choose to play smart, they could ask for a high-quality prospect like Austin Wells in exchange. Undoubtedly, the Yankees will think twice before giving away a prospect in exchange for a veteran. But with the stakes so high, the Yanks need to make risky swift moves. They are already way beyond the wild card spot in the East division. Overall, balancing the need for immediate impact with long-term planning will be a key consideration for the Yankees’ front office.

Third Baseman Nolan Arenado Could Be Put Up For Trade By Cardinals

Apart from Salvador Perez, another name is floating around in the market, which could be a potential trade interest for the Yankees. St. Louis Cardinals star third baseman Nolan Arenado would be a dream deal for the Yanks. He is one of the most accomplished third basemen in MLB history. Despite the Cardinals being at the bottom of the NL-Central division, Nolan is having a terrific season. In 90 appearances so far, he has hit .283 with 20 home runs, 68 RBIs, and .853 OPS.

For the Yankees, acquiring a talent like Nolan Arenado would be a significant move. It would boost their infield defense and add a consistent, potent bat to their lineup. However, any trade discussions would likely involve negotiations and considerations of the financial aspects involved. The Cardinals, despite being potential sellers, might remain unwilling to part ways with Nolan. And even if they do put him on the market, the asking price is definitely going to be sky-high.
