Yankees Must Make Necessary Roster Changes & Seek Reinforcement In Every Department As Free Agency Kicks In!

On Monday, the free agency will officially commence, allowing teams to make necessary roster moves. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees, who spent a month of off-season doing nothing, will have a chance to correct roster mistakes. Speaking of reinforcements, the Yanks need a couple in almost every department.

The offense will undoubtedly remain a priority. The incomplete pitching rotation is also an issue, along with the left field revolving door. Thus, the free agency is a perfect and ideal place for the Yankees to seek upgrades. However, at the same time, Hal Steinbrenner needs to stay cautious of the payroll and ensure that it does not surpass the luxury tax threshold.

Yankees Must Carefully Use Free Agency To Bolster Roster For 2024 Season!

Cody Bellinger, Yoshinobu Yamamoto

The free agency will commence this week, allowing the New York Yankees to make meaningful changes. As the team needs reinforcements in almost every department, they can start by adding upgrades to the offense. Cody Bellinger will remain their top priority. His bat is hot, but the odds of regression will play a key role. Regardless, Bellinger’s left-hand power, coupled with a deep connection with the franchise, should encourage the Yanks to make a move. Additionally, Kevin Kiermaier, one of the best centerfielders in the league, could be a like-for-like temporary replacement for Jasson Dominguez. The four-time Gold Glove Award winner posted .265 with a .741 OPS this year with the Jays. Other options include ex-Yankee Harrison Bader, Joc Pederson, Michael A. Taylor, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Tommy Pham.

As far as the pitching department is concerned, Yoshinobu Yamamoto remains the Yankees’ most sought-after free agent of this off-season. Though, his player posting process from NPB to MLB is still underway. Additionally, Blake Snell could be an option, as his market value seems underestimated for now. Aaron Nola and former Yankee Jordan Montgomery top the list of best fits. Having said that, the Yanks can also mull internal upgrades. For instance, Frankie Montas is on the verge of being re-signed on a short-term deal. Keynan Middleton and Wandy Peralta can also receive short-term deals. Overall, as the Yanks seek reinforcement in every department, they should also keep an eye on player development. Building a strong farm system is vital for long-term success, as homegrown talent can provide cost-effective depth and stars for the future.

It had been a month since the New York Yankees’ off-season began, and the front office went on radio silent. No one came out to address the fans or take some accountability for the lost 2023 season. The silence is itching the enraged fans who want to hear from the people in charge of the franchise.

Before the fans’ outrage goes beyond control, Hal Steinbrenner has begun preparations to hold a press conference. As per Andy Martino of SNY, Steinbrenner will hold a virtual press meet wherein he will share his views on the 2023 debacle and offer insights on the off-season plans as well. But will it calm the outraged fans down? Only time will tell.
