The New York Yankees suffered a horrific 2-11 loss against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday after giving away nine runs in a single inning.

New York Yankees enjoyed an excellent six-game road trip last week. They got their hands on two crucial series win and extended the streak. However, since they stepped foot in the Bronx, the tables have turned. In the first game against the Minnesota Twins, the Yankees were absolutely humiliated on the field. Moreover, the hitters didn’t even stand a chance to contribute as the game nearly slipped in the first inning.

Jhony Brito, who was recently called up from the minors to play as a fifth starter, had a horrendous outing. In 0.2 inning, he gave away seven runs. Further, Colten Brewer took his place and caused further damage by giving away additional three runs. Little did anyone could do from thereon to salvage the game. Ian Hamilton relatively had a good outing beofre Isiah Kiner-Falefa closed the game. Meanwhile, the Bombers made a fresh roster move to tackle the pitching struggles.

Yankees Call Up Greg Weissert From Triple-A, Sends Colten Brewer To Assignment

On April 14, 2023, the New York Yankees made a roster move, designating right-handed pitcher Colten Brewer for assignment and calling up right-handed pitcher Greg Weissert. Greg was the last roster cut ahead of the opening day and was sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The pitcher has had a good start in the minor league so far. In 5.1 innings, he gave away just one run. Hence, Greg is certainly a much-needed addition to the depleting and struggling pitching depth.

Further, Colten Brewer had no options, and hence he has been sent for an assignment. Since donning the pinstripes, Brewer has recorded a 4.32 ERA in 8.1 innings. Moreover, Thursday’s outing led to the Yankees pulling the plug. Hence, by designating Brewer for assignment, the Yankees have removed him from their 40-man roster and have 7 days to either trade him, release him or outright him to the minor leagues if he clears waivers. It’s worth noting that Jhony Brito, the main villain of the 2-11 loss against the Twins, has retained his place as the team lacks a fifth starter.

Jhony Brito Vows Of A Befitting Comeback

The main culprit of Thursday’s loss, Jhony Brito, looked visibly dejected as he returned to the dugout without completing a full inning. The Yankees pulled him out after he conceded seven runs. It was undoubtedly a horrific outing, but the pitcher still has hope. He turned up for an interview and said nights like this are normal in baseball, and he will come back stronger from this.

Further, Brito said he would sit with the pitching coach and play the tapes on repeat to detect the mistakes and correct them accordingly. Brito is determined to make necessary adjustments and vowed a solid comeback the next time he gets a chance. Certainly, Brito has a strong mindset and is not taking the recent setback to heart. Let’s hope he comes back with a bang.
