New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino had a long day at the field against the Detroit Tigers as he clocked 54 pitches in total.

The Bronx Bombers registered yet another commanding victory over the Detroit Tigers with 4-3. While the attacking front was being led by the team’s regular players, the pitching department lacked experience. The only thrower with any kind of major league experience on the lineup was Luis Severino. As a result, he took the lead and recorded as many as 54 pitches.

In those 54 pitches, he gave away two home runs. Coming from an injury, Luis is finding it difficult to find his lost rhythms. However, post the match, the pitcher, along with the Yankees skipper, made some assessments, and the former revealed his shortcomings. Moreover, despite his struggles, Severino remains confident that he can turn things around.

New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino has struggled to find his groove on the mound since returning from injury last season. Moreover, in order to manage his workload, the Yankees’ front office disallowed him to participate in the WBC 2023. Meanwhile, after a rough outing against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night, Severino acknowledged that his slider had been a major issue. He gave away two home runs, one of which came out through a slider.

Luis Severino said his sliders are a major flaw, and he needs to correct the location of the throw as he feels the movement looks fine. Moreover, Luis believes it takes a lot of time and effort to master the art of a slider, but he is confident of hitting it right very soon. Furthermore, regarding his health, Luis said he feels absolutely fine and healthy. Despite throwing long pitches, his body hasn’t felt sore, which is a good sign for him. Luis Severino’s inclusion in the starting roster is extremely crucial, with most of the rotation falling apart due to injuries.

“My slider sucks, that’s what they’re telling me right now,” said Luis Severino.

Carlos Rodon’s injury has opened up the doors for many pitchers waiting for their chance in the bullpen. Luis Severino, who missed out numerous seasons due to frequent injuries, is looking for a golden opportunity to feature in the starting roster of the New York Yankees. When asked about his preference, Luis said he does not care where he is placed as he just wants to play.

Seevrino further added that he wants to do his job with the ball even if it means that he starts last on the rotation. With incessant injuries, the Yankees will be hoping that Luis Severino can start to resemble the dominant pitcher he was before his injury and that his slider will once again become a weapon that opposing hitters fear. The opening day is in two weeks from now, and the Yanks are on a mission to rebuild the starting roster.
