After the conclusion of the 2022 Major League Baseball season, it is now the time for awards and accolades in the Baseball fraternity. Meanwhile, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has already won more than awards. Not only that, but he is also among the frontrunners for the 2022 MVP. However, Judge isn\’t the only Yankees getting recognition for his performance. The Bomber\’s catcher Jose Trevino has also won the American League Platinum Glove Award.

Yankees\’ Jose Trevino Won Platinum Glove Award!

The catcher in Pinstripe Blues, Jose Trevino, has been having a quick rise onto the big stage and is speedily becoming a fan favorite in th team. The 2022 MLB season was a standout for the young Texas native. On Friday, he added to his collection of pricey silverware. In addition to winning the Gold Glove this year, Trevino also received the Platinum Glove Award. Additionally, he was selected for the first time in this year\’s All-Star Game.

   

Throughout the season, the Yankees prevailed in 99 games, and Jose Trevino contributed significantly to those triumphs. Trevino achieved significant results throughout May and June. He demonstrated his ability to bat in addition to his superb defense behind the plate.

Trevino finished the regular season in third place among all position players and topped all catchers with 21 defensive runs prevented. He had 15 baserunners thrown out during the regular season. And according to Baseball Savant, he led all catchers in catcher-framing runs with 17. His pitch presentation to the home plate umpires helped New York by preventing 17 runs from scoring. Baseball Savant also reports that 53.9 percent of pitches just outside the strike zone were called strikes against Jose Trevino, who led the majors in this category.

Meanwhile, after winning the prestigious award, the young Yankees star took on to his Twitter handle to share his excitement. And offer his gratitude towards his teammates and the Yankees management. In his tweet, he said that it would not have been possible without the support of his Yankees, teammates, and support staff. Jose Trevino also mentioned that he feels honored to be able to share the dressing room with several legends of the game.  

At the same time, the Yankees are also delighted by the news. Not only that, they have been showering praise on the young catcher on Twitter. Jose Trevino lately spent most of his time in the minor leagues for the Texas Rangers throughout his four seasons with them. Before the Yankees acquired him in April of this year, he only appeared in 156 MLB games in four seasons. 

Trevino joined the team as the third catcher. Ben Rortvedt, who was injured, was often listed ahead of him. Trevino was selected because of his defensive skills, and he finally won Aaron Boone\’s confidence at the plate. He has grown into a key component on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
