After crashing out of the 2023 MLB season playoffs race, the New York Yankees have 2024 season woes upon them. Yes, the early signs indicate that 2024 is unlikely to be any different than 2023 for the New York fan base. The root cause would remain the injuries. For example, last week, the Yanks received a major blow, which will hurt their 2024 contention.

Jasson Dominguez, the Yankees’ most sort after prospect, raked major league shortly after his debut. He hit four homers in seven games to set up a franchise record. However, the dream run ended abruptly due to a serious injury, which will now require the kid to go under the knife. Amid this, a Yankee insider speculated Dominguez’s probable return timeline.

The New York Yankees shared a piece of devastating news earlier this week as they revealed that their top prospect, Jasson Dominguez, had torn the UCL of his right elbow. Apparently, the team is clueless about the origin of the injury. He may have picked it up in minor league itself and continued to play through due to lack of major discomfort. However, the kid’s situation worsened as he was diagnosed with a UCL tear through imaging scans conducted by the Bombers team. A UCL tear will require surgery, preferably Tommy John surgery. Tommy John will shut down a position player like Jasson for nine to ten months. Another option is the internal bracing procedure, which takes relatively less time to heal.

So what will the Yankees opt for? Well, the front office is still exploring options. Amid this, a Yankee insider claimed that Jasson Dominguez could be back by Memorial Day next year. However, another insider contradicted the former’s claim, saying it’s too soon to determine a timeline. A probable return timeline for the kid would be set during his surgical procedure. The team of doctors will evaluate what procedure Dominguez requires and what all can be avoided to ensure a return to the earliest as possible. All things and scenarios considered the outfield prospect is expected to miss the first half of the 2024 season, to say the least.

Five Yankees Have Fallen To Season Ending Injuries This Season!

Injuries could undoubtedly emerge as the primary reason behind the New York Yankees debacle this year. As the team marches towards the final stretch of the regular season, as many as five regular players have landed on IL with season-ending injuries. The first one to initiate the proceedings was catcher Jose Trevino, who left the season with wrist surgery. Pitchers Nestor Cortes and Luis Severino were the next ones to follow.

Cortes incurred the same injury, rotator cuff strain, in just a week after return. Hence, the Yankees shut him down to avoid unnecessary risk. Meanwhile, Severino, after a thumping comeback, hurt his oblique. Lastly, Anthony Rizzo, who apparently developed a concussion months after a tackle with Tatis Jr, was shut down as a precautionary measure. The latest addition was Jonathan Loaisiga, who will sit out for the remainder of the 2023 season with elbow inflammation.
