The New York Yankees had a really long Injured List last season. It was a big problem for them because the IL had several veterans and young players on it. Certainly, that did not help the NY side’s cause. As a result, the Bronx Bombers could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Moreover, they finished fourth in the American League East division. On top of that, the NY side had one of the worst records in their franchise’s history. They finished with a terrible 82-80 record. Moreover, the Yankees had the worst batting average in the league, excluding one team.

Their average was only better than that of the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics. Moreover, the toe injury of the team’s captain was a big blow to the season for the NY side. Aaron Judge missed around 35 games in a row. That really weakened the team’s offense. Hence, the Yankees Nation would pray that the team doesn’t have a long IL this year. Now, the team is going through the Spring Training games. However, there have already been some new injuries to deal with.

On Tuesday, the Yankees had a spring training game against the Tampa Bay Rays. But they could not play their utility infielder, Oswald Peraza. Later, Aaron Boone told the reporters that Peraza could not play because of “Some tightness in his right shoulder.” As per the Yankees skipper, Peraza experienced that tightness on Monday. The Bronx Bombers will hope that the shoulder tightness is just a day-to-day situation for Oswald Peraza. The utility infielder is very close to earning a spot on the 26-man roster on the Opening Day. Later on Tuesday, Aaron Boone mentioned that Peraza looked better than the previous day.

Moreover, it does not seem to be a very serious injury. On top of that, there have been no indications that the Yankees were planning to send the utility infielder for any kind of testing. If things go right, then Peraza can also return to the lineup on Thursday or Friday. Anyhow, the Yankees were also discussing the role of Peraza in the major league. There were rumors that the Pinstripes could demote him to the minor league. After all, the Bronx Bombers have a lot of options for the position of infielders. Anyhow, Peraza might still be the choice for the utility infielder.

On Wednesday, Aaron Boone gave health updates on a couple more players. At first, he mentioned Scott Effross, the RHP, who had back surgery in December. It was bad because he was still trying to recover from Tommy John surgery. Last week, Effross started a pitching program. But now, it will be a slow ramp-up. Anyway, the Yankees are not expecting Effross to return before the summer.

The other Yankee with an injury is catcher Jose Trevino. He suffered a calf strain a couple of weeks ago. As a result, this backstop will miss the beginning of the spring training games. However, Aaron Boone mentioned that he hopes the catcher to be match-ready for the Opening Day.
