The New York Yankees finally won a series after missing out on past 7 chances. And victory was even more special as it came against AL-East leaders Baltimore Orioles, with whom they have had a rivalry boiling this season. However, the Bombers failed to take a sweep due to costly errors in the finale.

Regardless, with the 2024 MLB season heading into All-Star break, the New York Yankees revised its injury list for the final time. Ahead of Sunday’s finale against the Orioles, manager Aaron Boone shared a few injury updates on catcher Jose Trevino and outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Santon.

The New York Yankees appear to have lost the plot heading into the All-Star break as they endured a hideous losing streak. Fortunately, before the break, the team regained the winning momentum with a series victory against Al-East leaders Baltimore Orioles. However, premier catcher Jose Trevino ended up picking an injury in the eventful series opener. Trevino, who contributed with two RBIs in a 4-1 victory, strained his thigh muscle on his slide down at the home plate. He immediately limped off the field and was replaced in the ninth inning, where a huge physical brawl broke out between the Yanks and Orioles. Meanwhile, Trevino was scratched off his scheduled outing in the series finale as manager Aaron Boone issued a damning verdict.

Ahead of Sunday’s finale game, Aaron Boone confirmed that Jose Trevino has been diagnosed with Grade 2 quad strain and will end up missing some time. He is currently placed on a 10-day IL with no set return timeline. It’s highly likely Trevino will need way more than 10 days to fully regain match fitness. Interestingly, after a wrist surgery shortened his 2023 season, the catcher had a decent comeback in 2024 with  .244 /.303/.411 slash line, eight home runs and 27 RBIs. However, fate continues to test Jose Trevino as he struggles his way through the competitive environment of the Bronx. Meanwhile, as Trevino recovers from the quad strain, catching prospect Carlos Narvaez has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as an immediate replacement. He will continue playing alternate days with Austin Wells until the Yanks find an external solution or until Trevino eventually recovers.

Giancarlo Stanton Likely To Return Without Rehab Assignment

Meanwhile, New York Yankees powerful hitter Giancarlo Stanton has ramped up his rehab as he continues to recover from hamstring injury. He has resumed hitting and base running drills. While an immediate comeback after the All-Star break is unlikely, manager Aaron Boone is confident of an early return, potentially by the end of the month.

Additionally, it is believed that Giancarlo Stanton won’t be put under a rehab assignment. His progress has been positive, and the Yankees’ conditioning team firmly believes that Stanton can rejoin the roster without having to serve a minor league assignment. Overall, a final decision is at the helm of the franchise who are cautious of Stanton’s long term health.
