The New York Yankees are in dire need of fixing their defense issues, as half of their pitching staff is lying on the injury list.

Bronx Bombers’ 2023 spring training sessions are marred by constant injuries. While the young and hyped prospects stole the show, the regular players are missing action due to frequent injury concerns. Moreover, the defense is the most gravely hit area, as the majority of the starting pitching rotation is missing from the bullpen due to respective injuries.

Amid this, the Yankees have an uphill battle to fix and reconstruct the rotation from scratch. While Domingo German and Clarke Schmidt have emerged as the most likely replacements, an underrated pitcher is banging the door by displaying impressive skills on his spring training debut. While the pitcher has only played a couple of games, his flashes of powerful throws have turned the heads of the fans and the critics.

New York Yankees drafted Ron Marinaccio in the 19th round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of Delaware. After rising through the ranks in the minor league, Ron made his way to the 40-man roster for the 2022 season. Moreover, he found a place on the opening-day roster as well and made his debut in April. However, a few injuries in the postseason ended his season prematurely. Nonetheless, Ron managed to earn a second chance as the Yankees called him in for spring training this year.

Ron Marinaccio made his debut against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. He clicked two strikeouts and threw pitches at a constant speed of 94-95 MPH. In two innings so far, Ron is yet to give away any runs. Hence, his form has sent a ray of hope to the Yankees camp, which is in desperate need of a consistent and strong pitcher. However, he must maintain his health for the whole season to stand a chance on the starting rotation. Nonetheless, Yankees fans should keep an eye on Marinaccio and expect big things from him in the coming time.

Deivi Garcia Also In Contention For The Role Of Yankees Starting Pitcher

The Yankees pitching staff’s injuries have opened up doors for the young guys to make a place on the starting roster. For instance, a former prospect, Deivi Garcia, is drawing attention with aggressive and fat throws on the mound. Against the Twins, he allowed only two hits and recorded two strikeouts. His sliders, cutters, and fastball were on point.

Furthermore, New York Yankees skipper, Aaron Boone, is too impressed with the pitcher. He said Garcia had delivered good performances ever since his arrival in the camp. Moreover, Boone is excited to see more of his fastballs as he likes the quality of that throws. If Garcia continues to maintain these stats, he could feature in the starting rotation until the regular guys return from injuries. FYI, the spring training ends in two weeks, and the regular season opening day will commence on March 30.
