New York Yankees roster expansion decisions on September 1 invoked a wave of frustration and anger amongst the fans as top prospect Jasson Dominguez was snubbed. The highly rated prospect, who spent a large part of the season recovering from multiple injuries, went over .300 in Triple-A following his return from IL.
However, the New York Yankees management justified the decision saying they have a better chance at winning with slumping outfielder Alex Verdugo compared to Jasson Dominguez. That being said, following heavy backlash and outside pressure, the Yankee front office gave in to award Jasson his due in the big leagues.
Jasson Dominguez To Play Everyday Following Yankees Promotion
The New York Yankees have finally responded to the clamour from fans and analysts alike by calling up Jasson Dominguez, the highly-touted prospect, to the major leagues. Ahead of the series opener against the Kansas City Royals, the Yanks announced several roster moves which involved the promotion of Dominguez. The kid immediately started at centre field and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and manufactured run. As Brian Cashman said earlier, if Jasson were to come to the big leagues, he would need to play every day. Hence, Alex Verdugo, who owns the career-worst OPS, is likely to witness a reduction in playing time. Meanwhile, manager Aaron Boone revealed what changed in the past week that forced the Yanks to reconsider their perspective on Dominguez.
“Look, the roster’s a living, breathing organism every day that’s always evolving. We didn’t initially recall Jasson, he’s in the conversation every single day,” Aaron Boone said. As for Jasson Dominguez, the kid did read some of the tweets in his support. However, he didn’t set any expectations, as roster decisions are out of his control. His goal was to perform, and the right attention would follow. That being said, Dominguez was happy and proud to return to the Bronx. Notably, over the last 18 games, Jasson was hitting .347 with four home runs and a .958 OPS. While he is traditionally a centre fielder, the prospect will likely have to settle for left field, at least for the remainder of the 2024 MLB season. Overall, Yankees fans are excited about the debut of their new star, and they hope that Dominguez’s arrival will provide a much-needed spark to the struggling Yankee offence.
Alex Verdugo Breaks Silence On Jasson Dominguez’s Promotion
Jasson Dominguez’s promotion to the big leagues will directly impact Alex Verdugo’s playing time as starting left fielder with the New York Yankees. However, Alex is more worried about team results than his personal future. He said in an interview that if Dominguez can help Yanks win games, he won’t mind a reduction on his playing time.
The ultimate goal is to win. That being said, the New York Yankees are yet to discuss outfield plans as manager Aaron Boone refused to spill the tea. While the expectations is to see Jasson everyday at left field, workload management might pave the way for Verdugo on some games or stretches in the next three weeks.
