The New York Yankees had a great start to the 2024 regular season. That’s the reason why they managed to win 50 games before any other team this season. However, they suddenly lost the winning momentum around mid-June. Since June 13, the NY side went 6-16 in their following 22 games. Later, Juan Soto got hurt in his right forearm during a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 28. Due to Soto’s forearm discomfort, the Dominican slugger has struggled with his performance. That weakened the offence of the Bronx Bombers to a certain extent. Then, since July, things have been worse for the 27-time World Champions.

They went 4-8 before the Midsummer classic. In the 2024 All-Star Game in Texas, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto had a great time as the American League defeated the National League once again. The AL won 5-3. It was their 10th victory in the last 11 All-Star games. Moreover, the fans thought this break would help the Yankees rejuvenate and return stronger with a fresh perspective. They won the first game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. But then, lost the next two games, and as a result, the Rays have an upper hand on the series.

On Saturday, the Yankees lost 9-1 to the Rays. However, they can try to win the final game on Monday to save the series. But the loss on Sunday just increased the level of frustration for the team as well as the fans. The Tampa Bay Rays won the game on Sunday 6-4 and went closer to clinching the series. Fans thought the team would start the second half with a winning streak, but the Yankees disappointed the fans once again. The team might disappoint, but not Aaron Judge, who hit a 444-foot home run to bring three runs. However, it was not enough, as the Rays won 6-4. There were multiple times when the Bronx Bombers had their bases loaded, but they could not capitalize on it.

After the game, the Yankees Faithful blamed the team’s over-dependence on the Judge-Soto duo. Some said, “The offense is too reliant on the Judge-Soto combo.” Then, there were some who blamed Gleyber Torres, calling him “Abysmal.” Moreover, some fans expressed their desire to see Brian Cashman, the GM, making some trades at the deadline to change the roster a bit. Then, another fan wrote that the Yankees are dealing with an issue of not having a legit Designated Hitter. As a result, the team is sticking with a weak-hitting centerfielder. Then, again some wrote that the team should really sell a lot of players for a base hitter but keep the Judge-Soto duo together.

The Yankees lost the game on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. But prior to the seventh inning in Game 3, umpire Edwin Jimenez ejected Aaron Boone. It was Boone’s fifth ejection this season. The reason was that the Yankees skipper yelled at the ump for calling out Alex Verdugo on a pitch that seemed really slow.

In the post-game interview, AP News quoted Boone, saying, “It has obviously been an emotional time. Tried to be a distraction in a time of such frustration.” On Monday, the Yankees will try to save the four-game series against the Rays. After all, they are down 1-2, going to the fourth. They must win on Monday to prevent back-to-back three losses.
